Phlat Phone

This could only happen to me. Yesterday as I was heading to the office, I stashed my phone in one of the pockets of my bag that I use to carry books, knitting, etc. My phone is a little too big to fit in the small pocket of my purse and I don't like to have it floating around in the depths of my purse. So I tossed everything in the car and headed to the drugstore on the way to the office. As I was backing out of the garage it felt like I was driving over something. I didn't think much about it at the time though since Rick has been building magic illusions in the garage. When I got to the drugstore, I checked for my phone... no phone anywhere. That's when I got that sick feeling. I went back home and there was my phone on the garage floor, flat with a big black star across the screen. The amazing thing was that it still rang when Rick called it. I have enough trouble using it when I can see the screen though, so now I have a new phone that's small enough to fit in the zipper pocket of my purse (and more room for my knitting of course).

New Socks

Now that I've finished my Magic Stripes socks, I've started some new socks. I decided to do the Dublin Bay sock pattern with some Koigu Premium Merino (color P138) that I had on hand. The colorway is more cheery that the recent yarns. It's perfect for the beautiful spring days we've had lately. I only have two skeins so hopefully it will be enough, but my feet aren't that big.

I'm definitely in "fiber mode" lately. I've been spinning up my Easter Egg dye wool. I decided to join them together in a single (pink, purple, blue, green, yellow, pink, etc.) It's not bad so far. Right now I'm leaning toward plying it with a white single. I've got about another hour of spinning to go and then I can ply.

I've even worked a little on my sweater, about halfway done with the last sleeve. Even though I can't wear it until next winter, I'm looking forward to finishing it.

Finally, A Finished Object

It seems like it's been a long time since I've finished anything. Socks don't usually take me very long to finish, but these Lion Brand Magic Stripe socks did. Maybe it's because it's my second pair and I was starting to get bored with them. In any case, they are finished and I'm ready to move on to other things. They came out good. In hind sight I think I should have made them a bit longer, but then again the last pair seemed to stretch as I wore them. I have women's US size 7 feet and I'm able to get a pair out of a ball of yarn with 6" cuffs. There's not much left though. Considering the price, they're not bad. I'm just a little bored with them right now.

Today we went to an auction. I usually don't spend much money at them, but I have a blast. I got a crock pot today. It's actually better than my current one, so the current one will probably become a dye pot and the new/old one will become our food crock pot.

Easter Egg Dye

We don't have children but every Easter I dye eggs and this year was no different. It's the kid in me I guess. I know you can dye wool with Easter egg dye but I had already decided that I didn't wasn't going to do that this year. I'm still a new spinner and my stash is on the small side. I'd rather save it for something else, even though I have no clue what that "something else" may be. But the eggs were finished and and there was all this dye just sitting there. I couldn't help myself. I grabbed a few wads of wool, stuck them in the cups, and microwaved them for a bit. I'm amazed at how well they turned out. (Remember, I'm new to spinning and dyeing.) They turned out better than my eggs anyway. The purple had some blue streaks and the pink didn't go quite all of the way through but all in all they looked good. More important, I had a blast. Now I have no clue what I'll do with my colored wads, but I'll find something.

It's been slightly crazy around here lately. Several of us put on a magic show at the kids fair at our local mall this weekend, plus we were on a local TV show promoting it earlier in the week. The rest of the week I was doing some last minute painting on one of the illusions. It seemed to go over well though. Some of the kids had a blast at the show, especially when they got a chance to help. I did a little knitting and spinning during the down times. Occasionally I heard a kid asking a parent what I was doing but I was disappointed that none came over to see it. So I haven't made a lot of progress but at least I made some. Maybe I can take a breather now and get back to my knitting and spinning.
