We Interrupt This Fiber Blog...

...to discuss a vacation. Yes, a real, although a quick, vacation combined with a wedding in the family. My nephew was getting married in Charleston, SC so Rick and I decided to make a trip out of it and visit his family in Atlanta and do a little site seeing in Charleston. We took the ferrets with us because they love the adventure in going to new places. All ferrets and humans had a great time and are just now starting to recover.

The wedding was a casual wedding on the beach and went extremely well. The weather was perfect, cooler than normal for August. We only had one major crisis. Coming back from rehearsal, one nephew (Eric) was driving his car that he finally finished paying off. The other nephew that was getting married (Brian) was driving his mom's car in front of Eric. Well apparently traffic was heavy, someone stopped ahead of Brian and Eric didn't stop quite as quickly. He ended up running into the back of his brother. No one was hurt, except for their pride, but Eric's car was toast. All in all we took it in stride. We're used to these things happening when we get together.

The ferrets had their first experience on a beach. They didn't think much of the ocean but had a blast in the sand and thorny bushes. Rick and I did the tourist thing and explored old Charleston. There are some beautiful old buildings there.

Steve was our tour guide and traffic blocker in Charleston. He's a Belgium draft horse who used to pull a logging wagon in Tennessee before coming to Charleston to pull tourists around.

I took a lot of knitting with me but didn't really get much knitting done, although I am almost finished with my Katrina top. One thing we learned is not to try and sneak ferrets into a Hampton Inn when you have to go through the lobby to get to the room. We stayed in a motel that allowed pets but my sister stayed at the Hampton Inn. After we checked out, we went to see my sister and her husband with the ferrets in their carry sack. Being the curious animals they are, they kept popping their heads out of the sack and I felt like I was playing Wack a Mole when I tried to stuff their heads back down. The contraband ferrets survived, though, without getting my sister thrown out of the motel.

Some Fibery Content

Now that I'm back home, I have been catching up on some of the blogs I read. If you haven't seen the Urbanspinner blog take a look. There is a lot of good information on the main site as well as in the blog. Currently Elaine is talking in detail about making dye stock solutions. She also has some excellent tutorials on Indian book charkhas on her homepage.
