Cable Sweater Nearing Completion

The Cable Sweater is getting close to completion. The neck is almost finished. I just have to do the short rows for shaping, and sew it down. From there I only need to sew on the sleeves, sew up the seams, and weave in the ends. I'm concerned that the sleeves may be too short. They are actually a little longer than the specified measurements but they still look short to me. Maybe it will be better once I start putting it together. Here's the progress so far.

Progress on Cable Sweater with neck finishing started

Speaking of clothing sizes, Rick and I went to buy some clothes the other day. Nothing expensive or fancy, just knocking around clothes. Rick tried on a few different sized pants to find his size. Once he found his size, he just picked out a few others in the same size, confident that they would fit. (They did by the way.) Then we head to the women's clothes for me. I tried on two pants in the same size, same brand, different color- too big. I tried on two pants in a smaller size, same brand, different color. One fit perfectly and the other one was too small. So I go back and grab a different pair of pants in the size that was too big earlier and they fit. Rick is watching all of this and comments that a size 38-30 is always a size 38-30, why can't it be that simple for women. Ah, the eternal question. Well first, I think women must worry about fit more than men do, although I've noticed that men have more options these days. Plus there's the size shrinkage which increases as the price of the clothing goes up. The more you pay for a piece of clothing, the smaller the size you will need. Then apparently there is an inability to make the same size the same size.

Next on My List

Since I'm getting that panicky, no-project feeling as I near the end of the cable sweater, I now have a new project.

Wool-ease yarn for Rambling Rows afghan

Yep, that's Wool-ease for the Rambling Rows Afghan to go on our bed. With any luck at all, I may finish it before next winter. At first I was going to choose a more expensive yarn but the Wool-ease was on sale. I also have ferrets and a cat that love to play and wrestle on our bed. Cheap and washable seemed much better. I have a Wool-ease Thick and Quick throw rug that I knit a year or two ago that has held up very well, in spite of being a daily play area for the ferrets in addition to foot traffic. I also decided on brighter colors. I'm finding that I'm moving from neutral colors to bright colors lately. Stay tuned for progress.

Tomorrow is Columbus Day and I'm looking forward to it. I can use the extra time to rest and recoup. That's exactly what I'm going to do.
