A Find!

Every year there is a benefit sale for our local historic theater, the Ritz Theater. It is actually more of a giant garage sale. There are people who save stuff up all year to donate to the Ritz Theater sale. This year it occupied 4 empty stores in our dead mall, which is about 3 more than the real retail stores in the mall. Anyway, my find this year was some Brown Sheep yarn, some cotton yarn, and some other wool yarn, all with labels or tags. I also picked up a pack of knitting needles and crochet hooks. But the best find was a knitting book: Knitting by the editors of Ladies' Home Journal Needle & Craft.

The copyright is 1977 so I wasn't expecting much when I picked it up but I was surprised. There is wide variety of patterns in the book, many of them very nice, including bikinis and other beachwear, hats, coats, sweaters, dresses, children's clothes, afghans, and rugs. These are compiled from the magazine issues and no designer names are given. Of course, the book also has its share of hideous patterns, which were probably fine at the time but kind of make you shudder today. It's amazing the things we used to wear. There's enough nice patterns to make the book worthwhile, though, definitely worth my $ 1.50 investment.

Other than that, I haven't done much knitting or spinning except for some progress on the Rambling Rows Afghan.

One of the things that has kept me busy was the Smart Growth Forum I attended today. If you haven't already check into Smart Growth. It's basically city planning to avoid urban sprawl, to preserve farm land and undeveloped land, and to make areas more attractive and accessible by several modes of transportation. There's more to it than that, but that's the nutshell version. It was quite interesting and well worth the time.

Until next time, I leave you with the Llama Song. Someone on the Spindlers List pointed this out and I got the biggest kick out of it. Enjoy!
