Another Old Book Find

I love our library book store. In case your library doesn't have one, it's basically a used book store. You take your old, unwanted books and magazine in. They sell them and use the proceeds to buy new materials for the library. You never know what you'll find there. This time I found "Weaving Techniques and Projects" by Sunset Books.

Front cover of Weaving Techniques and Projects

This is a surprisingly good book. It covers a LOT of weaving techniques but none in great detail. It seems to be almost equally divided between techniques and projects. The techniques cover everything from cardboard looms to floor looms. There are even instructions for building a 4-harness frame loom. It has some good tips here and there in spite of its length and some nice pictures of typically used tools such as shuttles and beaters, including the all purpose table fork beater. There is an equally fascinating range of projects, tapestries, clothing, rugs, table runner, painted warp doll, and shoulder bag. So it's not a bad find for 50 cents.

Well I wasn't going to buy any more yarn. My stash isn't as large as some, but it's big enough that I would like to reduce it. Nonetheless, I couldn't help myself and decided to make the ChicKnits Ribby Cardi with the Elann Peruvian Collection Highland Wool. You can't beat the price at $2.25 for a 109 yard skein. Plus I don't have that many casual cardigans. There are way too many colors to make a quick choice. It seems like I agonized forever. So after much deliberation, I ended up with the following colors - Dried Herb and Mocha Heather.

For some silly reason, I thought this would be a very slow, easy week leading up to Thanksgiving here in the US. Was I wrong. It's been one adventure after another this week. It's been a good week, just hectic. The good news is that I have a long weekend coming up. So for Thanksgiving, I'll leave you with two web sites. The first one is BugKnits, miniature knitting by Althea Merback, with some beautiful teeny tiny knitted clothing items. I would have trouble making the full-size versions of some of these items. She also sells some patterns and the teeny tiny needles used to make these things. I'm in awe of her abilities. The next web site is actually a fun version of Baa Baa Black Sheep by Wren Ross. You will need to be able to play MP3 to hear it. Enjoy!
