Time Off is a Good Thing

We all need some time off now and then. Rick and I really needed the long Thanksgiving weekend. It was a good weekend and we successfully didn't do much except sleep. The only problem was that it wasn't long enough. We had turkey and leftovers until we couldn't stand it any more. I also got an early Christmas present, a new computer. Dell had a killer deal on their desktops that I couldn't resist. Rick also got an early Christmas present, a router. Now the bad news is that I managed to muck up my blog files while I was moving them to the new computer. I think my old computer is mad at me for getting a new computer. I think I've got everything back the way it was. If you have linked to an archived page, though, the link may have changed, or not. We'll figure it out.

Anyway, it's safe to say that I didn't do much productive over Thanksgiving except cook, eat, and sleep. I did get some new fiber from Copper Moose though. Not only is their fiber wonderful but their customer service is also.

Fiber being examined by cat and ferret

The fibers in the pictures are Blue-faced Leicester (top left), Jacob (top right), and some fawn alpaca (bottom). I love spinning Blue-faced Leicester and this stuff is really nice. I don't know what it is but all of the blue-faced I've bought has this characteristic smell. I don't know if it's the sheep or what they wash the fleece in but I've become addicted to the smell. Jacob is a new experience for me. It's not exceptionally soft but nice nonetheless. The alpaca, of course, wonderfully soft. It makes you want to bury your face in it. Giving their vote of approval are Katie, the cat, and Phoebe, our newest ferret. Phoebe is particularly fond of the alpaca. Katie likes any kind of fiber but is particularly fond of mohair. Must be that goat smell.

I also got some knitting in. I actually managed to work on my socks and made some progress on the Rambling Rows afghan.

I've also been getting back into dyeing fiber again. More on that later. I've found a list with a lot of good information on dyeing, no matter what your using, the Dye Happy Yahoo Group. I got more information from this group's files and archives in a few minutes than I've gotten over the months of searching the Internet on my own. Plus the group isn't so large that it gets overwhelming. If you're interested in dyeing, it's a good place to start.
