Christmas with Ferrets

We did it. We bought our Christmas tree. (We prefer live ones.) We got it up but didn't have a chance to decorate it right away. First let me explain that we have three ferrets, three oh so helpful ferrets, with one of them still a youngster. Ferrets like to help, especially when you have your head stuck in tight places. For instance, you're trying to screw the tree in the stand. While you are doing that, there is at least one ferret head right in your line of sight saying "Yep, just a little bit more and it'll be secure." (It's even worse when you're putting hardware inside a computer.) Then when we've finally got the tree secure, we put some water in the stand, watch the ferrets drink the water, add more water, and give up for the night.

Yesterday we finally got around to decorating it and got halfway through before the ferrets woke up. At that point we put one decoration on the tree, chase the ferret as she takes a decoration off of the tree to hide it. Then get a ferret out of the decorations box and put another decoration on the tree. This is repeated until you finish or give up. We gave up. Every morning when she gets up, Phoebe starts pulling decorations off again. She has way more energy than we do, but you've got to love her Christmas excitement. We've been having a blast watching the ferrets with the tree.

It doesn't help that Phoebe is the most athletic and airborne of our three ferrets. So we've been gradually moving all lights and ornaments higher and higher up the tree.

Warm Hands

I did manage to finish the men's mittens this weekend between chasing ferrets. The nice thing about mittens is that they go so fast. These turned out very nice too.

Completed gray men's mittens.

I also managed to spin the blue fiber I dyed the other day. It doesn't look as variegated as I expected but nice nonetheless. Here are my singles on my special singles holders, otherwise known as empty toilet paper rolls. I love those things. They are always available and the price is right.

Before I rush off again, here is something way more attractive for your viewing pleasure. Amy Clarke Moore does some amazing things with bead embroidery. I've only played around now and then with beading and I suck at embroidery so I can't imagine making pictures this complex. I'm in awe.
