We're Almost There
Everything that's
going to be decorated is decorated. All the presents are wrapped and there's a turkey
thawing in the fridge for tomorrow. All that's left to do is relax and wait until
tomorrow. The mail lady already delivered some presents for the ferrets and cats
today, which they've given their one paw up of approval. Yesterday we did our last
minute grocery shopping. We also stopped by one of the many dollar stores we have.
I love those places. Anyway I came away with the cloth sack that's supposed to be
a wine bottle gift sack but it looks to me like it would make a perfect sock knitting
sack or spindle sack.
I'm ready for a weekend
of eating and relaxing. Hope all of you have a wonderful weekend too. Happy Holidays!

Spinning Around
I have been neglecting
my spinning lately, so last night I tried a new-to-me fiber. It's some moorit shetland
that I received in a fiber exchange a while back. The fiber is a lovely color, a
lightly heathered warm brown, and it's nice and soft. It's a different texture from
the really fine stuff like alpaca or even merino. The fiber has it's own charm,
though, and I love spinning it. For me at least, it seems to practically spin itself.
I'll have to put it on my list of things to get later. That's a very long list by
the way. Anyway, I'm about halfway through spinning the sample I got.
I also got started
on the ChicKnits Ribbi Cardi. I'll spare you pictures of the little bit of ribbing
that I've done so far. Most important for this area, though, is that we're all waiting
to see if we get snow, ice, or just rain tonight. Those of you in the more northern
states may not realize this is a really big deal. I pity anyone who really needs
to go to the store and get milk or bread on a night like tonight. There's a good
chance the grocery store has already run out as everyone makes a mad dash to stock
up on milk and bread. I've never really understood the logic behind it. It is truly
rare that the streets would still be icy or snowy after a day or two. Now we do
tend to get ice rather than snow and I would much rather drive on snow. At least
it gives us all something to talk about. If I get iced in tomorrow, I plan to knit
and spin the day away. In the meantime, I leave you with a pile of ferrets in their
sleeping hammock, their favorite sleeping spot when we have them in the cage at
night. In case you can't tell one from the other in the pile, there are three ferrets
there - Balt (hanging over the side), Zoe (on the bottom of the pile), and Phoebe
(the dark ferret).

Sometimes You
Shouldn't Share
There are just some
things that a person shouldn't share with their loved ones. I know it's the season
of giving but I would just as soon give this cold back. I should at least be able
to exchange it for something more fun, say dinner and a movie. I know Rick is a
giving person, but I'm tired of this cold now. I would give it to someone else but
everyone I see seems to have one already. Besides I'm convinced that you can't get
rid of a cold until you pass it on to someone else. Luckily I'm not one to knock
myself out at Christmas, as you've probably guessed from reading my blog. There
are no frantic Christmas preparations or no deadline Christmas knitting. Oh I always
put up a Christmas tree and I buy a few presents as I get around to it. I usually
do some Christmas baking because I enjoy it. Sometimes I even knit up a present
or two and sometimes I even finish them before Christmas. But if I start feeling
a twinge of guilt, I wait until the feeling subsides. I would rather not participate
in a contest to see who can give and get the most stuff. I did, however, knit up
a few Christmas ornaments from Elizabeth
Zimmermann's Knitters' Almanac to put on packages this weekend. They are very
quick to make, use up bits of leftover yarn, and give a different look to packages.
I also finally got
a picture of the Cable Sweater that I finished so long ago. It looks like a line-up
picture but what can I say. I have a cold. I was also waiting for the rainy season
to end so that I could do the final washing and blocking.
So since I'm finally
feeling better, I'm off to curl up under an afghan to drink some hot tea and do
a bit of knitting. Hmm... someone must have just come down with a cold.
