A Very Good Day
I really meant to
post to my blog before now. The problem was that we took off the week between Christmas
and New Years Day. Well that wasn't exactly the problem until we had to go back
to work after that time off. We got used to those lazy days during the holidays.
Of course things got very hectic as soon as we got back to work. Now we expected
that, but it didn't make it any easier. So now we've finally settled into our routine
again. But we did get a break on Thursday. We had an appointment early on Thursday
morning in Huntsville, a little over an hour away. We also had another appointment
in the evening. Since we rarely get to spend time in the bigger city of Huntsville
during a work day, we decided to make a day of it.
Now this is Alabama.
Spinning and fiber shops are in short supply around here, so it's a real treat when
I get to actually touch the fiber before I buy. After our first appointment, we
headed up to Harvest, Alabama to Little
Barn where I spent about an hour fondling fiber and yarn. It's a homey little
store and even Rick gets a kick out of going there. They are always friendly and
they have some of the neatest old spinning wheels on display, not to mention some
nice handspun, knitted shawls.
Now they happened
to be restocking that day but I still managed to find plenty to buy. I bought some
more Shetland because I really liked the last stuff I spun, some charcoal merino
and other wool, some bright blue wool that Rick liked, some variegated silk (mostly
rose and cream colored), and some carded fiber that was a mixture of wool, camel,
alpaca, llama, silk, and mohair. That's me, below, making my purchases. And no,
that large bag to my right isn't my purchases, that's some fiber they are working
on. It's probably good that I didn't spot it before I checked out. It's black and
white merino and silk - very nice stuff.
So with purchases
in hand, we head back to Huntsville for lunch and then to go to the library for
a little genealogy research. On the way out, we stop at the library used book store
and Rick comes away with two bags of old rare out of print magic books. (I didn't
really think it was quite fair since I found nothing, no matter that I had a trunk
full of fiber.) By then we had enough time to stop for coffee and do a little shopping.
Then off we go to have dinner at our favorite little German restaurant, Ol' Heidelberg,
with some out of town magicians and ended up talking and laughing and talking and
laughing until way too late when we all made the long drive home. I had so much
fun on our day away that my brain was tired the next day. That's a good thing.
I have gotten some
other knitting and spinning done since my last blog but I'll save that for another
day. Now I think I need to rest just from telling the story again.
