Pile of yarn and a spindle

I Love Shetland!

Have I mentioned how much I love spinning Shetland? For me anyway, it practically spins itself. Here's the Shetland I spun a while back after it has been plied and set.

Shetland handspun yarn, moorit

I like it so much that I decided to buy another pound when I went to Little Barn the other day. No, I have no idea what it's going to become, much like the rest of my fiber stash. I don't know what it is about fiber. With yarn, I usually just buy what I need for a project. It's rare that I buy yarn and not know what I'm going to do with it. I miss out on some really good deals because of that flaw by the way. With fiber, though, I just have to buy because it's pretty, feels wonderful, it's unusual, or I just haven't had a chance to spin that type of fiber yet. I see lots of small handspun projects in my future.

Other than fondling fiber, I've also been working on my Ribby Cardi. I'm almost done with the back. I've also been swatching for the EZasPi Knit Along where we knit Elizabeth Zimmermann's Pi Shawl. If you have her book Knitters' Almanac, it's the round shawl mentioned in July. Some people are spinning the yarn for their shawl. I'm not quite up to spinning lace or fingering weight yarn yet. Sport weight is about the best I can do, but I'm getting there. So I decided to use a cone of camel yarn that was given to me a while back. Now I just need to decide what lace patterns I want to put in. It should be fun. So far our group is quite varied, so that should make it interesting.

I'm off to browse more lace patterns before bed.
