As The Yarn Turns

The tales of how I squeeze knitting and spinning into an already full life

It's Friday

Friday is here and not a moment too soon. It's been a busy, wacky week. It's a good week but I could use a quiet break for a couple of days. I have managed to get some knitting in each night. It keeps me sane. I've started on the sleeves for the Ribby Cardi. I was making pretty good progress until I stopped and looked at my increases. I'm never quite satisfied with my increases. I usually end up ripping them back a time or two or a dozen before ending up with something I like. So several increases into the Ribby Cardi sleeve, I ripped them all out. Now I'm back where I was before I ripped out but I'm much happier with the sleeve.

I was also looking through the logs and noticed a lot of people end up here looking for information on decreases in the Ribby Cardi. I didn't have any problems with the decreases. My weak point is increasing (see above). Without knowing where people are having problems, you might take a look at the Ribby Cardi notes on ChicKnits. Bonnie Marie Burns just recently talked about the decreases in the Ribby Cardi. Scroll to the bottom for the notes on decreases.

I also managed to get a little work done on my Shetland Lace Pi Shawl. At least now I can get an idea of how the second lace pattern is developing.

It's not at its best in its current unblocked pouchy state, but I like the way it is developing. Now I'm anxious to get started on the third lace section if I can just get this section finished.

I'm off, hoping for a quiet, fibery weekend.

Need New Projects

Must focus. There's not anything boring about my current knitting projects. It's just that I'm at that stage where I need the gratification of seeing something finished. Instead I have too many things that are not close to being finished and not enough time lately to get them finished. A few days where I didn't get distracted with something else and I could get close to finishing something. This is also the stage where I tend to block everything out, including food, friends and family members, just so I can finish "the project". So this is my way of saying that I'm knitting on the sleeves of the Ribby Cardi and I'm still knitting the Shetland Lace shawl.

On another note, I found a nifty new spinning chair thanks to some suggestions I picked up on the Spin-List. It fits all of my criteria. It's small so it fits into the small space I've set aside for my spinning wheel. It can be folded up and stashed away or tucked into the car if needed. Most important, it's only about $10.00 at our local Target.

It comes in one basic color, black, at least at my local Target, and that's perfect for me. It also has a little bit of back support if I need it. Before now, I had been using an ottoman, but it was too low and had no back support, of course. I'm not really interested in spending a lot of money of a piece of furniture right now. This chair fit the bill and I'm much more comfortable.

We don't really eat much in the way of desserts and candy here, but when Valentine's Day arrives, it's chocolate city here. So I'm off to eat chocolate and do a bit of knitting.
