Time, The Final Frontier

Yes, I'm in search of free time. I'm having a really hard time making knitting and spinning progress lately. Heck, even when I do make progress, I'm having trouble finding a minutes in the daylight hours to take a picture of it. Now that's not such a bad thing. After all, work brings in money that can be used to buy yarn and fiber plus we've been having a lot fun at work lately.

Honestly, though, I have made some progress on the Ribby Cardi and the Shetland Tea Shawl. I'm on the second sleeve of the Ribby Cardi. These sleeves seem to go quickly. With any luck at all, I may finish the last sleeve this weekend. But then luck isn't something that comes easy for me, good luck that is. The only downside is that it looks like I make have to make the collar in the same color as the fronts. I have enough yarn for the sleeves but it will be tight for a collar. The good news is that I overestimated yarn for the fronts and back and have several skeins left over. So here's a picture of the second sleeve in progress

Second sleeve of the ribby cardi

Even better news is that I'm almost finished with the second lace pattern of the Shetland Tea Shawl. I debated for a while whether to do the Diamond Madeira lace for the third lace pattern as shown in the book or whether to substitute something else. It seems several people in the EZasPi knit along had problems with it. I've decided to just plow right ahead with the Diamond Madeira lace, though. I can always rip back and substitute another lace pattern if it becomes too frustrating.

Until next time I'll leave with a website where the knitting has a sense of humor. I saw this site mentioned on another blog (and I can't remember where now). Whoever you are, I thank you for pointing it out. I just love the gloves and the bird earrings.

You Have to Start Somewhere

New blue toilet seat

You know things are pretty darn dull knitting-wise when I show toilet seats instead of more fibery content. It's been busy the past two weeks but I have managed to get a bit of knitting and spinning done. By now you know the drill, though. I still working on the Ribby Cardi and I'm still working on the Shetland Tea Shawl. I like both of them. It's just that there's nothing particularly exciting to report.

Which brings me to the toilet seat. Some people start redecorating with new paint, new wallpaper, new flooring, or new carpet. Not me, I start small and work my up. In the kitchen, I got new cabinet handles, then a throw rug, and then a table cloth. We're still working on the kitchen. We were in desperate need of new toilet seats, especially for guests who don't quite know the eccentricities of the old seats. So when I spotted the clear blue seats, I saw my chance to start redecorating one of the baths. I'll leave redoing the walls for another day or year.

To leave you with something more fibery, check out Katherine Coby's web site. She everything from knit sculpture to more conventional clothing such as shawls, sweaters, and coats. Many of the clothing items are made from handspun handknit wool, but other very attractive items are made from plastic bags. The Mirage coat was featured in A Gathering of Lace. If you are looking for inspiration, it's a good place to find it.
