Something New

Since I've been able to mark a couple of things off of my "works in progress" list, it seemed only fair to start a new project. This one is a small project while I decide what I want to do for my next major project. I bought a couple of balls of Jaeger Mohair Art yarn on sale a while back. It looks like enough, maybe more than enough, for a wrap. The yarn is also very soft. The yarn is furry enough that I decided against using a decorative stitch pattern, so I went something simple and a few beads on the stitches at the ends. The stitch is very stretchy, the idea being that you can stretch it to make it long and skinny or make it shorter and wider. We will see how that idea works out in real life. Here it is so far, unblocked of course.

Going back for a moment to the May socks in my last entry, why yes one leg does look a bit larger than the other. I would like to say that's because one of my legs is larger than the other. Nope. I guess my knitting was just more relaxed on this leg. I regularly check my gauge when I'm doing the first sock but I rarely check it on the second sock. No matter. I'm not about to rip out my work on the second sock and try to get the same gauge as the first sock. Perfection is a nice goal but no point in being obsessive about it. That's not why I knit.

Almost a Pair

Things are getting back to normal here in blogland. My African Grey May Socks are seeing more knitting time lately than they have in months. It would be nice to have finished them in May. They are May socks after all. That probably won't happen though, but they are close.

Progress on May socks

I have also finished, washed, blocked, and packed away my Ribby Cardi, just in time for summer. I let it sit for a while because I wasn't sure I liked the zipper. Finally this long weekend I sat down redid parts of the zipper and gave it a good bath. It's a little looser than I would like but it will probably be tighter in my bulkier winter clothes. (Every now and then gauge and I just don't see eye to eye.) Overall I like it and will probably get a lot of wear out of it. The yarn is Elann's Peruvian Collection Highland Wool. I like the yarn but you would swear they were different brands. The green is very soft with a little bit of a halo. It was also difficult to get even stitches with it. The brown heather is a much sturdier yarn. Don't get me wrong, it's still nice and soft but it has more substance and elasticity to it. If I make something else with this yarn, I think I'll stick to the heathered colors. The one solid color I tried was a little too wimpy for my tastes. Anyway here's a goofy picture of me wearing the Ribby Cardi. This is a three-day weekend for me so you'll have to excuse my unkept appearance with t-shirt and baggy pants.

Completed Ribby Cardi

I'm still eyeing the Sleeves in Your Pi pattern in Ponchos & Wraps: A Knitter's Dozen. When I first heard it mentioned, it didn't sound all that attractive. Now that I've seen it though, I really like it. I'm not quite ready to start it but it's in the back of my mind. Besides, I really enjoy knitting lace. Otherwise my mind is tending toward summer tops right now.
