Alive But Sweltering

Yes, it's hot here, just like everywhere else, and I've been knitting and spinning very little. It's been busy here, but then it always seems to be busy here. More important its been hot here. I wouldn't be at all surprised if our air conditioner just gave up and admitted defeat. This is the part of the US where nights in the summer don't cool off under the best conditions. Lately it's still in the 80s at 10 or 11 pm. One night Rick and I were looking at the weather channel to search for a cooler location. Mostly because Rick didn't believe me when I said it was hot almost everywhere. Arizona is obviously out of the question. I noticed tonight that Illinois was just as hot or hotter than we are. There wasn't much in the way of cooler weather on the map. Summer is my least favorite season and this isn't making it any more popular in my mind. I have a couple of plants I need to put in the ground but that seems like cruel and unusual punishment under these hot, dry conditions - for me and plants. I think I'll leave them in their cooler partly shady location for a few more days. The other reason knitting and spinning have been slow is that I found out I had extremely high blood pressure at my last annual checkup a couple of months ago. So I'm still in the medication adjustment phase and last week was medication adjustment week. So I didn't have my usual energy but everything is getting back to normal now.

This week is the WC Handy Festival here in town. It's usually a fun week with music all over town. Restaurants, bars, parks, and the streets downtown all have live bands playing, really good bands too. The weather unfortunately usually leaves a bit to be desired. It's usually either hot, rainy, and steamy or just sweltering hot. This year is the year for sweltering hot. It should start cooling off a bit by the end of the week so that will be good for the outside activities that start winding up towards the end of the week. Since I like to participate in the Handy activities when I can, that will probably cut into my knitting and spinning time this week, but these are the sacrifices we make. I can always knit and spin but Handy week only comes around once a year.

I really have been knitting though. I'm almost finished with the first of the cotton socks I'm working on and I'm a couple of rows shy of the armholes on the Shapely Tee. It's just that progress has been slow and not very photogenic.

I finally got a picture where the color shows up correctly. I don't know what it is about green but it's hard to get a good picture indoors and I seem to be taking a lot of pictures after dark lately. So I ventured outside today to get a good picture. (The yarn was extremely glad this process didn't take long.)

With any luck, maybe I'll have some Handy Festival pictures this week.
