Ball Band Collar

So I had started knitting my second cotton sock the other night, but I got really tired and toddled off to bed. Now there is a reason I usually put my knitting away when it's unattended. I have three ferrets and a cat who are fascinated by knitting stuff. I left my sock sack, unzipped, there on the couch. Apparently though, I was too tired to remember that reason. Next morning, I'm in the kitchen getting coffee and I notice something strange about our ferret Phoebe. On closer inspection, she has a yarn ball band around her neck and wearing it proudly I might add. Here's Rick holding Phoebe wearing her ball band.

That meant she must have stuck her head in my knitting bag just right to get the band around her head. I would have thought it would annoy her, but nope, she seemed to like wearing it. As for the socks, it's not much of a start, but I have started the second sock.

I have also finished the front of the Shapely Tee. There's still hope that I can finish it before cold weather.

The other night I went outside and suddenly there was this giant flying insect around my head. Turned out to be a cicada who decided to camp out on our front porch.

Apparently we have 13-year cicadas here instead of the 17-year cicadas that were in abundance last year everywhere else. These are early even for 13-year cicadas but I've been hearing them every day outside my window. It's comforting to me in a strange way. It reminds me of visits to see my aunt in the summer as a kid. She had lots of oak trees in her back yard and often you could hear cicadas. It was happy times. So hopefully we'll have a few more emerging before summer is through.
