Not A Hurricane

Okay, all of you people looking for pictures and information on Hurricane Katrina move along quietly now. There's nothing to see here. I was looking through my site logs this morning and noticed an unusual number of people looking at the picture of my top made out of Katrina yarn in the bowels of my blog. The sudden increase in interest didn't make much sense until I remembered that there is a hurricane named Katrina in the Gulf. Now Katrina is scheduled to come through here sometime Tuesday or Wednesday but I'm only a few miles from Tennessee. If we get anything impressive, I'll be sure to post it but I'm guessing the pictures will be much more impressive from those folks along the Gulf coast.

Speaking of knit tops, I've been working on the back of the Shapely Tee.

Back of the Shapely Tee

I've just started the waistline decreases. The short rows went much easier on this piece since I remembered to knit into wraps when I was done. I forgot to do that on the front and had to go back. The back is moving right along so I might actually get to wear it this year after all. Course the way the weather is going, it may still be 90 degrees in December.

I also tried my hand at needle felting the other. I bought some felting needles, a foam block and an instruction sheet a while back but I just haven't gotten around to using them. So I decided to get some spare fiber out and try to needle felt a flower.

I like the way my first try turned out. It turns out it was a lot more fun than I thought it would be. I'm going to have to start another project one of these days. I may even get a book so I really know what I'm doing. Until then, it's back to the knit top.

Socks Again

I messed up my blog the other day. I've got to stop doing that. I think I've got it all fixed now, but I guess we'll see. I've had actual knitting time this week. I got my usual knitting in at my recent doctor's appointment. I've actually been pretty lucky. I don't normally have a lot a waiting time. The problem is that everyone at the doctor's office asks me how their Christmas socks are coming along. They're kidding of course. At least I hope so, otherwise I have a LOT of knitting to do before Christmas. It makes me feel good to know my socks are admired so much. Plus having doctor's appointments mean my second cotton sock is coming right along.

It may take me forever to finish a pair of socks but I always eventually finish them. I'm usually too anxious to wear them to abandon them completely after the first sock. The problem is that socks are usually my traveling project so I don't always get a lot of time to knit on them.

Since it seems to come up, I thought I would clarify about an old blog picture featuring a opossum. Opossums are curious looking creatures but that is a picture of a real, wild opossum that happens to be startled by the camera flash. Rick and I waited for weeks trying to catch the opossum at the right time for the picture. They scurry off quickly when they see us. Course I do the same thing when faced with a camera flash.

I'll leave you with a picture of my orchid that's blooming its heart out at the moment. I don't raise orchids, other than this one, and this one is in serious need of repotting and maintenance. I almost hate to mess with it since it has been such a dependable bloomer.

Ouch!

Yes that was the word for most of last week. Somehow or another, I hurt my shoulder, my right shoulder. I'm right handed. Anything using my arm wasn't comfortable at all. I was able to get some writing and typing in from time to time. I decided to limit my knitting time though. I would rather have it heal quickly than to drag it on because I decided to knit in pain. I did get a little bit done on the mohair wrap though.

The good news is that my shoulder is quite a bit better today. I should be back to previous knitting speed soon. I've also been spending a lot of time looking at the new Vogue magazine and other patterns. There are so many patterns I would like to knit that it's hard to narrow down my decision. Then again, I should probably finish what I have first.
