One Week Down
No fear, things are
much better today than they were when I made my last entry. Unfortunately there's
been a lot happening the past few days so knitting progress has been pretty meager.
Thursday we had to attend a Christmas party. We had a lot of fun and made some new
friends. That's always a sign of a good party. Then last night we participated in
First Fridays
here in town.
That's Rick performing
magic for some people. I mostly looked around at the artists. On the first Friday
of the month, they let artists set up stands exhibiting and selling their work and
performing on the main downtown street. I hadn't been to it since it was first set
up and I was amazed at how much it has grown and how many people turned out for
the event. It's been cold here and in the south, any kind of bad weather usually
keeps people at home. I know I was thankful for my hand knit woolens. There was
a huge turn out though and lots of coffee and hot chocolate being sold. Hopefully
most of the artists had a successful night because there were some nice things out
there.
I did actually get
a little knitting done this week. I finished seaming up the Shapely Tee. Now I just
need to weave in the ends and give it a good blocking. Knitting cotton is definitely
not my strong point and it could use a good blocking.
So another project
is almost finished. I also received a really nice knitting bag from the American
Heart Association for participating in their Go
Red program.
Okay, so they probably
didn't intend it to be used as a knitting bag, but that's the first thing I thought
when I opened up the package. It's large and sturdy with a zipper at the top and
pockets on the outside. I'm eyeing it as my combination work and knitting bag.
This should be a
quiet weekend. I'm looking forward to some quality knitting and sleeping time so
I can regroup for next week.

Almost Finished
Literally and figuratively.
No pictures today because, well, I haven't taken any. I'm in a rotten mood because
I've had a rotten day. We'll just leave it at that. The good news is that there
has been actual knitting here. I've almost finished seaming up the Shapely Tee.
The sleeve seams still need to be seamed and the ends woven in and it will ready
for blocking. I'm almost never satisfied with my seams but these look better than
most. Course that opinion may change when I look at it again. The Shapely Tee isn't
all that photogenic right now anyway, so you probably wouldn't really miss a picture
of it at this point. For a while I wasn't quite sure how it would look but it's
shaping up quite nicely. (pun intended) I promise I'll have pictures of knitting
next time.

Thanksgiving Holiday Knitting
The bad thing about
traveling away from home at Thanksgiving and leaving Thanksgiving Day is no leftovers.
There's no leftover turkey and dressing to munch on. So to make up for the leftover
crisis, we made turkey and dressing here at home this weekend. My Thanksgiving weekend,
and the week ahead, is complete now. This has to be one of the few times I actually
look forward to leftovers.
The good thing about
traveling away from home at Thanksgiving, besides visiting with family, is lots
of knitting time. I'm almost down to the heel on the second Mountain Colors Bearfoot
sock.
It's moving right
along, mostly because I'm anxious to wear them. I know I should be finishing some
projects up but instead I decided to make myself some fingerless mittens.
It was actually a
nice break and a very quick knit. They are made from some of Jacob wool handspun
yarn (if the texture happens to look wonky). I wanted something different from a
plain rib so I picked out a ribbing pattern from Barbara Walker's A
Treasury of Knitting Patterns
and just started knitting. I have perpetually cold hands and feet in the winter.
Now I have something
to keep my hands warm on those cold nights at the computer. So far
they are doing the job very well. I'll try to get the pattern up sometime this week.
Now I just need to get a quick secret knitting project done this week.
