Slugfest
You're going to notice
right away that there's a lack of knitting and spinning progress on the blog today.
But I did get started on one of my goals for this week - reorganizing my yarn and
fiber. I actually have been knitting but not as much as I wanted and there's been
no spinning at all. I have a cold. It's not even what I would call a bad cold. It
sure is annoying though. If I could just get my head clear I would feel 100 percent
better.
So back to my reorganization
binge. Sometimes I reorganize because it is needed. Other times I reorganize to
take out my frustrations on something productive. This reorganization binge was
a little bit of both. I decided I really needed to reorganize my yarn and fiber
so I could actually find it and I was frustrated that I still have this cold. I
bought some of those wire storage cubes at Target to put in one of the closets.
Each box makes six cubes. They are perfect for storing yarn and fiber.
Right now I have
yarn on the top two shelves, fiber on the middle two shelves, and some junk on the
bottom two. Yeah, I working toward getting rid of the junk too. I would like to
say that's all of my yarn and fiber but I know that's not true. I have a plastic
box of fiber in the living room. Several plastic boxes of yarn in the bedroom. Then
there's more yarn in a drawer in the chest in the dining room plus other yarn and
fiber around here and there. I'm going to slowly try to move more of it into the
storage shelves.
It's been fun rediscovering
some the yarn and fiber that had become hidden. A big bonus was that I rediscovered
some art supplies while I was clearing space for the cubes. I even found my little
travel water color set. So I haven't been a complete slug, just a knitting and spinning
slug.

We Made It!
Yes, we got through
Christmas without a major upset or crisis. There was lots of food. Well actually
there's still lots of food. The ferrets and the cat had a great time in the wrapping
paper, bags, and boxes. Rick and I enjoyed some very relaxing days. Overall a very
successful Christmas. There usually isn't a major gift exchange at our house. Mostly
we exchange a few little fun things. Among the things I got this year were a couple
of knitting books and gummy bears. (I have a serious gummy bear addiction.)
The first book is
Knitting
Over The Edge: Unique Ribs, Cords, Appliques, Color, Eclectic .
I already had Knitting
on the Edge
and I've used it quite a bit when I have wanted to add a special edging to something.
Nicky Epstein's second book is just as good as the first. I think I'll be using
it quite a bit too. The second book is The
Knitting Experience : Book 3: Color .
I was expecting a book only on colorwork. It has a lot of colorwork but it's
actually more than that. The first chapter discusses color in general and color
theory. There are several patterns that use variegated yarns and don't really involve
colorwork. On the other hand there is a good discussion of variegated yarns and
how to avoid stacking of colors in variegated yarns. While I usually find a number
of patterns I like in Sally Melville's books, the best part is that I always find
a few tips and techniques that are new to me. That makes it all worthwhile to me.
But I also got a gift certificate for books that I need to use, so I'm sure that
will go toward some knitting books too.
Well I'm off to eat
more turkey.
