A Little Bit of Everything
I did get a little
knitting done this week, with the emphasis on "little". As long as I'm
making at least a little progress on something, I'm happy. The first Gentleman's
Sock is almost done. I'm at the point where I'll be doing the toe stripes and decreases.
It turned out to be a good thing that I bought the extra ball of yarn since the
first ball ran out in the middle of the foot. It's looking good though. The yellowish
blob at the bottom of the leg is the safety pin I used as a marker so I could count
pattern repeats.
We have the possibility
of an ice storm here this weekend, so I may get a lot of knitting done. We have
plenty of food, plenty of yarn, plenty of fiber if I run out of yarn, a bottle of
wine, and ferrets and a cat to keep us warm. What more could you want, well besides
power?
From the comments,
and reading other blogs, it sounds like many of us are trying to make the sweater
with the perfect fit. I like the way the Shapely Tee turned out and I know I'll
wear it a lot. I guess I'm just aiming for perfection. Plus I'm not always that
good at judging how much ease I want, so I try to make a mental note when it should
be more or less. Now if I were really organized, I would actually write it down.
Nah, that would take all of the suspense out of it.
We've got thunderstorms
coming so I'm off.

About Nothing in Particular
There's no earthshaking
news here today. Mostly I've been knitting and working and knitting and working.
I did finally get a picture of me wearing the Shapely Tee. It's not the best picture
in the world because Rick was taking the picture and he's not used to my camera.
So I would get in place and he would say something like "What's this?"
or "How do I turn it on?". I would show him, rinse and repeat. I
should have straightened it out a bit for the picture but I was getting impatient.
If I had to make the Tee over again, I would have made a size smaller.
This size is okay, but I would prefer that it fit a little closer.
I seem to have this
problem a lot in my knitting. I have trouble reaching that happy medium between
too tight and too loose. I usually add a little too much ease to my measurements.
Maybe I'll get lucky and it will shrink a little. Since it warmed up to 60 degrees
F today, I went ahead and wore it to work. (Our weather has been like a roller coaster
this year.) On the whole, I like the top and it's comfortable to wear.
If you haven't heard
about it yet, Lolly
is having a Postcard
Swap in association with Project
Spectrum . Participants make postcards using the color theme of the month and
exchange them with other participants. I had thought about doing something like
this before, but just never got around to it. So this seemed like a good time to
start. I have been doing some planning and researching for my first postcard. It
should be fun. If it sounds like something that would interest you, there are still
a few days left to sign up.
I'm off to get a
little more knitting in before bed. Turns out it was a good thing I bought the extra
ball of yarn for the Gentleman's Sock. I've only got a few yards left on the first
ball and I've still got a bit to go on the foot. Sometimes you make the right decisions.

A Snowy Weekend
We don't get a lot
of snow here at the northern edge of Alabama but until a few years ago we would
get a least one or two good snow storms and an ice storm. The last few winters have
been mostly rainy though, until last night. We got actual snow, snow that stayed
on the ground for a while.
We didn't get the
foot or more than many of you got, but at least it covered the ground for a while
this morning until the sun melted it. The ferrets wanted no part of the snow. Katie
on the other hand loved the snow. The same cat that hates going out on the patio
by herself, raced outside last night and this morning so she could walk around in
the snow. By this afternoon, she was ready to crawl under the blanket and take a
cat nap.
She says she's resting
up in case there is another snow storm tonight. I know I could use a snow day.
Overall it was a
good weekend for watching the Olympics, playing in the snow, knitting, and spinning.
I did a little bit
of knitting on the Rambling Rows Afghan, a little bit of knitting on the Gentleman's
Sock, and a little bit of spinning while I watched the Olympics. No huge progress
on any of them but enough so that I felt like I accomplished something. Ah, I could
use a few more days like this.
