Curling

...or how I attempt to distract you from my lack of knitting content. That's right, almost no knitting this week. Sometimes my week just seem to run amok and this was one of those weeks. If I didn't have a doctor's appointment this week, there would be almost no knitting at all. I have actually started on the second Gentleman's Sock and I've done a bit on my afghan, but that's it. What I have noticed while I have been out and about this week, is that here in north Alabama people are fascinated by the Curling competitions in the Olympics. They can't seem to get enough of it. Most of us haven't seen much, if any, curling before the Olympics this year. Rick normally doesn't care much about the winter Olympics. Baseball is his sport. He's been watching all of the curling he can find. According to him, it seems like a sport that even he could do and that it involves a lot of strategy. I just find it interesting that the sport everyone is talking about here is curling. Who would have thought?

Chris asked if being iced in this past weekend gave me focus that I don't normally have. Probably. On a normal weekend, especially lately, we have errands to run and people coming over to the house. So even if I have a big block of time, I'm always thinking about the next thing to do and how much time I have left. This weekend, since I knew we weren't going anywhere, I felt like I had unlimited time. It was nice. Course I think we're making up for it this week.

So I'll leave you with a picture of Zoe ferret playing with one of our many "things on a string". Half the door knobs in our house has a "thing on a string" hanging on it for a passing cat or ferret to wrestle down. Zoe has her almost white coat right now. In the summer, her color is more of a light brown. Zoe and Balt were "TV Stars" on a local TV show this week so they are still a little big-headed.

One Down, One To Go

It was the perfect weekend for knitting and sleeping and eating. That's about all I did too. Saturday morning started off with lots of freezing rain, sleet, a little snow, and cold temperatures. That meant driving was a little treacherous. For that matter, going to the mailbox got a little treacherous. I've seen it much worse here though. I don't think anyone in town lost power, so that was good. We ended up with bushes and outdoor furniture that looked a bit like this.

Ice on a bush

I spent my time finishing up the first Gentleman's sock, and even got the ends woven in. The sock seems to be a perfect fit and Rick likes it now that he's seen the whole sock. Of course, I'm sure he'll like it better when I finish its mate.

I also did a little bit of spinning, knit a bit on the afghan, bought a few supplies for the postcard swap, and did some painting and drawing. Maybe we should get iced in every weekend. I feel like I got so much more done.
