Out Of Town

We were out of town at a magic convention this weekend, in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. I had every intention of blogging while we gone but apparently the computer gods thought different. So you get a post trip report. We also had a teenage boy along with us for the weekend. Now we don't have any children so it's kind of like going from zero children to a teenage son overnight. Lucky for us, he's a good kid. On second thought, with Rick along, it's kind of like going on a trip with two teenagers. There hasn't been much time for sightseeing. It seems like I spent most of the weekend walking up and down this hill ...

...to get to the Country Tonite Theatre where the lectures and shows are held.

If nothing else, I got my exercise in this weekend. I also got in a little bit of knitting. The Gentleman's Socks are coming right along.

I've also met a lot of nice people, including this guy.

Gene Andersonl

That's Gene Anderson, a magician who is a chemist and also is famous among magicians for his torn and restored newspaper trick, among other things. So it's been a good weekend but I'm really glad to be back home. I'm looking forward to a good night's sleep.

A Bit of Knitting

Well this week is turning out to be hectic too but I have managed to get in some knitting time. The second Gentleman's Sock is coming along.

Second Gentleman's Sock

At least I'm past the ribbing. I don't really feel like I'm making progress on a sock until I'm past the ribbing. I guess I feel like I'm past the beginning. Then once I turn the heel, I feel like I'm almost finished even though I've only done a little over half. I'm anxious to finish these so hopefully everything will go quickly.

I also got a little bit done on the Rambling Rows afghan.

Rambling Rows Afghan

That's Phoebe checking out my work. I like this afghan but I think I'll choose something more portable if I ever make another afghan. Rather than making squares or strips and sewing them together, you knit each square or rectangle onto the ever growing afghan.

I also changed out the picture of my foam board loom so you can see a little more detail. I realized that I needed a little more detail than a white rectangle on a black background. LOL!

I noticed Chris and some others were doing a "Blast from the Past" week. Since today is 80s day, I went on a quick search for some 80s pictures. Lucky for all of us, I couldn't find any. I'll give you a hint of what you would see. For some reason, in the 80s I decided to perm my hair. Now my hair already has plenty of natural wave, not really curly, but wavy. When I added a perm on top of that, I ended up with a really curly poof of hair. Oh I'm glad those days are gone.

A Moment to Catch My Breath

That's right, I've actually had a relaxing day today. There's nothing pressing to do, nothing scheduled. Of course, the house is kind of chaotic but that's not unusual. Friday night we had a parking lot "fender bender" when a couple in a very large pickup backed into our little Saturn. Luckily we only lost a little bit of paint in the front of the car and they were a very nice couple. Still it wasn't exactly how I wanted to spend my Friday night. Then last night, we did a magic show at a local restaurant. Everything went well, that is once Rick rebuttoned his shirt WHILE he was driving down the highway to get to the restaurant. (Note to self: Do NOT tell Rick his shirt is buttoned wrong while he's driving to a magic show unless you want a very exciting drive.) Here's a picture of Rick doing his magic at Southland Restaurant last night.

We had a lot of fun and a great crowd at the magic show. Plus you can't beat Southland for its homestyle cooking and friendly atmosphere. Overall it's been a good weekend in spite of the exciting moments.

I'm really glad today has been quiet though. I needed to recoup a bit. I did some thinking about my Project Spectrum Project. I've been wanting to try some weaving so I made, or attempted to make, a bookmark loom out of some foam board I had laying around. I used cardboard the last time I tried to make a loom like this but it just seemed too flimsy. The foam board is sturdier but I had trouble getting clean cuts. We'll see how it works out. This isn't a budget breaking project after all.

Needless to say, there has been very little knitting. I'm still doing the ribbing on the second Gentleman's Sock.

This week should be a better week for getting some knitting done though. With any luck, I should have actual fiber content to show you.
