A Project Spectrum Tour

Margene started this Project Spectrum meme the other day to find this month's colors, red and pink, around your house. When I first saw this, I thought I would have to resort to going through the pantry. A lot of my house is white, beige, and blue, with a little green here and there. Actually though, I realized there is quite a bit of red and even a little bit of pink. So here's a March Project Spectrum Tour of the house.

I'm sure I could have found more things, but maybe I'll save them for later.

Chris asked if the yarn on the bookmark loom was the cashmere. I'm not that brave. I should have posted more about the loom, but I forgot. Since I know very little about weaving, I decided to use something easy and cheap. In this case, it's some red crochet cotton I had around. The crochet cotton looks too thin to me, though. I'll probably change it to embroidery thread or maybe even some of my handspun yarn. Besides, this is just an experiment with weaving so I'd rather not use something expensive in case it screws up. The potential for screw ups is probably high, especially with helpful ferrets and a cat around. The cashmere yarn will probably become a scarf.

Off to knit.

Spring Has Sprung

It's hard to believe that just a few short weeks ago we were having freezing temperatures with sleet and ice. When we got back from Pigeon Forge on Sunday, I noticed everything had started to bloom while I was gone - Bradford pear trees, daffodils, and forsythia. Here's a daffodil from our backyard.

Daffodil

Temperatures have been in the 60s F during the day and tomorrow it will reach 70. I'm not sure if I'm quite ready for 70s yet but it's good to see a few flowers blooming. I guess I should enjoy it while it lasts. It is March after all, which means the weather could turn on you any moment.

The flowers and the spring weather inspired me to start working on my Project Spectrum projects.

Project Spectrum supplies

I warped my little bookmark loom but I might end up using something else. I also dug out some lace weight cashmere yarn that will probably turn into a scarf. That was one of my recent yarn splurges. I just couldn't pass by the combination of color and softness and there's enough yardage for a good-sized scarf. Now I just need to decide what pattern to use. I also planned out my postcard swap postcard. I'm looking forward to playing around with that.

Speaking of playing, I'm off to do a bit of knitting and playing.
