Postcard Swap Day

Today, I received my Project Spectrum postcard from Jane.

Project Spectrum postcard

Isn't it lovely? It even came wrapped in the nice tissue paper shown underneath the card. I love exchanges, especially when they involve something handmade. It's fun to see how different people approach a project. Plus I always learn something in the process. This time the whole postcard making thing was new to me. I had a great time with it. Now I need to start thinking about the next exchange.

Most of our flowers right now are yellow, purple, and white so I'll leave you with a picture of my Christmas Cactus this winter. It's much more appropriate to the pink and red Project Spectrum colors.

Swatching Time

If you had trouble getting into my blog last night, it was because of this.

Hard drive

Yes, we had a hard drive crash on our server last night and everything was down until it was replaced later last night. Rest in peace little hard drive. You were a hardworking, faithful employee for 10 years. The only time you got a break was during a few power outages. You never gave us any problems until last night. We could tell you were getting tired, though, so now you can rest.

On a more knitterly note, I've been thinking about what I want to do with the cashmere yarn. So I pulled out some lace pattern books to look for likely candidates.

Lace books

That's the First Book of Modern Lace Knitting by Marianne Kinzel and Barbara Walker's A Treasury of Knitting Patterns. One of these days I'll get around to buying the second volumes of each of them. I also have a folder of some Shetland Lace patterns I've been looking through. I'm having a hard time narrowing down my choices so I've been swatching with some camel lace yarn.

Lace swatches

I'm sure I have miles of the stuff since I have a huge cone that was given to me a while ago. It's nice stuff and I really don't mind making swatches with it since I have so much of it. I still haven't decided what I'm going to use, so I guess I'll be making a few more swatches.

Almost A Pair

Believe it or not it's been 80 degrees here today. Trees are starting to turn green. Flowers are blooming and the mockingbirds are singing their hearts out. Which means the mockingbird dive bombing season can't be far behind. Allergies, on the other hand, hit me hard this year, so I had to go for the prescription stuff for the first time. Now one of them was an antihistamine and. I really should have known better than to take it. I was loopy for about a day and a half. Knitting under the influence of antihistamines is not something I should do. Bad things happen and knitting has to be ripped back. So I decided I didn't want to take that particular drug again right now and I'm starting to feel back to normal, or at least as close as I ever get.

I'm down to the heel flap on the second Gentleman's sock, ready to start shaping the heel.

Second Gentleman's Sock

Now that I'm at the heel flap, I feel like the end is almost here. Even though I'm probably only about halfway, it feels like I'm much closer to the end. Plus the second sock always goes faster since I know what to expect.

I also finished my Project Spectrum Postcard Swap postcard this weekend. (Try saying that 3 times fast.) I'm not quite sure I'm satisfied with it but I know disaster is ahead if I fiddle with things like that too much. It should go out in the mail tomorrow or the next day.

Tomorrow brings back some cool weather after the storms pass through. I'm actually happy about that. We'll have more than enough hot weather when summer gets here.
