What's Above My Fridge Friday

Thanks to Chris, I found out that Kate has a contest going on to show all of the stuff you have in the cabinet over the refrigerator. I had so much fun looking at everyone's cabinets that I just had to show mine. First, the stuff in front of the cabinets should tell you right away that I don't go in there very often. I'm not tall enough to get into it without a step stool

Approaching the cabinet over the refrigerator

Hang on while I get a step stool and drag the stuff down so you can see inside the cabinets...

Inside the cabinet over the refrigerator

Mostly it's Halloween decorations. I really thought I had more things for other holidays in there. I had no idea that I had all of those spider webs in there. From the left, there are a couple of black candy buckets, a fake black cat, lots of spider webs (note to self: Do NOT buy spider webs this year for Halloween), several fake pumpkins including a foam rubber one that the cat likes to attack, an Easter basket, and an empty wine bottle from some major event. Oh I think I see the singing dancing witch in there over to the left. What can I say. We get into Halloween. So there you have it, my stuff in cabinet over the fridge.

Lucy was curious where I got the traffic cone with "Give me coffee and nobody get hurt" on the front. Rick got that for me at Books-A-Million bookstore. Believe me it's appropriate in the mornings. I am not a morning person.

Also Dipsy was wondering how I did the picot edge on my socks. There are probably better explanations on the Internet, but here's how I did mine. I did my usual cast on. It has to be an even number of stitches. Then I knit seven rounds. On the next round, I did K2tog, yo for a complete round. (That's why you need an even number of stitches.) This will be the picot edge. Then I knit seven more rounds. I folded the top to the inside at the row where I did the K2tog, yo. On the next round, I knit one stitch on my needle with one stitch from my cast on edge. From there I just proceeded on with knitting the sock.

Daylight Saving Time has been hard on all of us, including Katie. Here she is sleeping on her favorite cat blanket on the arm of the couch. The other blanket is there to protect the couch from rampaging ferrets and cats.

Okay we have storms coming, so I'm off.

New Socks On The Needles

It's new socks week here. I've started on the Opal socks for April Project Spectrum. I needed something mindless during those times when I'm waiting for something to happen or when I'm trying to get through a meeting. So I'm back to my standard stockinette sock. This time though I'm doing a picot edge top on the sock instead of ribbing.

Opal socks in progress

These are my first socks with a picot top so I have no idea how they will wear. I like they way they look and I'm not too picky on fit so they should be fine. I like the way the colors are coming out in this yarn too.

Other than some sock knitting, daylight savings time has us a little brain dead and grumpy this week. So I'll leave with an appropriate Daylight Saving Time and Project Spectrum picture.

Joke traffic cone

In case you can't read it because of the glare, it says "Give me coffee and nobody gets hurt".

Yellow and Orange Month

It's April which means yellow and orange are the colors for this Project Spectrum month. Nothing says yellow, spring, and Easter like Peeps.

Peeps

Other than dark chocolate, I don't eat a lot of candy and desserts. Okay, I forgot about gummy bears. It's probably not safe to let me around gummy bears either. Right now the focus is on Peeps. I'll confess right now that every year as it gets closer to Easter, I've just got to have Peeps. If you've never had Peeps, they're like sugar coated marshmallows in the shape of chicks and rabbits. I think it's safe to say they have no nutritional value and they're not exactly a gourmet confection, but that's not the point.

The last batch of daffodils is also blooming right now.

Daffodils

They probably won't last much longer and the hail storm we had over the weekend didn't help. There will be other flowers but I'll miss the daffodils.

Also for April, I have some yellow and orange Opal sock yarn from my stash that will become socks for me as soon as my schedule calms down a bit.

It'll be good to knit colorful socks again after knitting grey man socks for so long. I actually have enough yarn left to make myself a pair of grey and blue socks but I just don't think I can face that right now.
