Postcard Day

I received a really nice collaged and painted postcard from Steph at Sunset Cat for the April Project Spectrum postcard exchange.

Project Spectrum postcard exchange

I've been browsing around looking at some of the postcards people have received. It's interesting to see what people do. All of these postcards give me that "Why didn't I think of that?" feeling. There are really some great ideas out there.

I've started the second Opal sock but I'll save you from still another sock picture today. Besides I really haven't gotten that far and it's been a gloomy, drippy day here and a busy week. Even the ferrets are too tired to play. We had a house guest Thursday night, a house guest who loves animals. That's always good news for the ferrets. That means they can explore luggage and laptop cases without getting into trouble. That also means it will take a couple of days for them to rest up from their adventure. As for me, I'm just taking it easy this weekend.

A Courtly Day

My number came up this week, my number for jury duty that is. I'm not sure how it works in other places but here they call in a large block of people at once for several trials. The times I've been called for jury duty, the dwindling jury pool gets shuffled from courtroom to courtroom after each jury is selected. The jury selection alone can take almost all day. This time there was a grand jury being selected and juries for two criminal trials. I wasn't selected for the grand jury or the first criminal trial. By the time selection for the last trial began, the jury pool was pretty small and I just knew I would be one of the few people without a conflict. Then while the potential jurors were being questioned, the defendant pleads guilty. I swear, even the judge agreed that it was like something you would see on TV, not real life. So five hours and $10.50 later, my jury duty commitment was complete. I also managed to convince at least one other juror to learn to knit when I went outside to knit during the lunch break. It was an interesting day to say the least.

I know it seems like I've only been knitting socks, but I've been knitting on the my lace scarf here and there too.

I like it. I just haven't managed to sit down and knit on it that often.

Tomorrow night we have a house guest, so I need to run so I can at least clear off some space for him sleep. Space, the final frontier.

Fleeced

I was in a grumpy mood this weekend. The kind of mood where you are grumpy for no particular reason. I really could have used Kat's Mean Red this weekend. Since Mean Red wasn't around though, I decided to do something completely different. I bought a Lincoln lamb fleece a while back from a nearby shepherd but I hadn't gotten around to washing it yet. So since we had a warm sunny weekend, it seemed like the perfect time to start washing it. There's something about transforming a dirty fleece into a mass of soft white curly locks that just changes my outlook. I'm fairly new at the whole fleece washing thing but this fleece seems to have turned out okay. There must have been a few hay and grass pieces that I missed and a few tips that didn't get as clean as I would like. Overall, not too bad though.

I spread the fleece out to dry on a sweater dryer for a few days. Which leads me to this.

Socks sleeping on the fleece

Meet Socks. He's the neighborhood cat (not ours). Socks usually stops by the house every day or so, grabs some petting and a few bites of food and continues on his way. He's a true neighborhood cat. If anyone is outside or having a garage sale or the kids are out playing, he's right there with them. On this particular day, he decided to come inside and take a nap in the sun on my fleece. So apparently the fleece meets with his approval.

I still have some more fleece to wash. Then I have to decide whether to dye it and then spin it or spin it and then dye it.
