Jaywalker Progress, Maybe
The Jaywalker socks
are moving along nicely. I really like the way the socks look so far.
The pattern is easy
to remember too. Unfortunately, this is also the point in my sock knitting where
I start worrying, in this case I'm worrying that they might be too small. I do this
with every sock, and sweater, though. It won't be long before I'll be comparing
it to every other sock I've knit and then I'll take it off the needles to try it
on. It's funny though, as I get further along I'll blast on along, even if the sock
has a circumference of four inches. Then when I start on the foot, I'll start worrying
again. No measuring of gauge and calculations will stop the worrying. Course lately
I don't measure gauge when I'm knitting socks. Mostly because socks already seem
like a gauge swatch and I don't have much problem ripping them back. So if it looks
like I've started my socks over at some later date, it's probably because I did.
Tania
A asked about the projects in the Mason-Dixon
Knitting
book. I found a lot of interesting projects in the book. Most of them aren't that
complex to knit but they look great. There are a lot household things - hand towels
for the bathroom, a variety of rugs and bath mats, including kids projects, blankets,
lacey curtains, and felted boxes. For babies there are the extremely easy bibs,
the baby kimono that's on my "to do" list, and the Moses basket cosy.
There's not a lot in the way of men's and women's clothing but there is the nightie
and robe, the Nina Shawl, and the scribble lace scarves. I'm sure I forgot a few
things. Some of the best parts of the book are the chit chat between the patterns.
Plus I found a lot of things I would like to make. Not that I need any more projects
right now.
I'm looking forward
to a long weekend. Since July 4 is on a Tuesday and things are usually quiet work-wise
for us around the 4th, we're taking Monday off too. So we have a four day weekend
where we can stay home and relax.

The Sock Wagon Stopped Here
Okay I was starting
to feel nekkid without a sock on the needles. I knit socks during all of those times
I'm just waiting for something. Even though I have been knitting other things, it's
just not the same as having a sock to knit. I definitely don't need another knitting
project, but it's just comforting to have a sock on the needles. So the other day
I stopped by the local yarn shop and bought some sock yarn. Shaefer
Anne to be exact. I keep eyeing the yarn every time I go in there but this is
the first time I have bought any of it. I have nice sock yarn already, I just needed
something different or new or something.
Since the yarn is
blue and purple and green, I figured it could hold me over through next month for
Project
Spectrum . I know it is hard to tell from the picture, but I though I would make
the Jaywalker
socks. I am sure I must be the last person on the planet who hasn't made a pair.
So far, the yarn has been pleasant to knit and the yardage is good, 560 yards on
a skein. It's a little thinner than average but I can handle that. I just went with
smaller needles and the larger Jaywalker size. The colors make it especially pleasant
to knit. So knitting is back to normal now.

Sunday Saturday Sky
I found out a little
late that Sandy
had suggested that we post our Saturday sky. Well as luck would have it, I accidentally
took a picture of the sky this afternoon when we were out at the Helen Keller Festival
in Tuscumbia, Alabama. So here you have our Sunday sky for Saturday Sky. Saturday's
sky would have looked like this only wetter.
It turned out to
be a good day for the arts and crafts festival, no rain and a little cooler than
it has been lately. There were plenty of arts and crafts vendors and stations where
you could make your own arts and crafts.
There were train
rides through Spring Park all afternoon.
Plus there was a
band playing while we stopped to get a bite to eat.
There wasn't any
yarn or fiber but there were some beautiful artwork at the festival. All in all
it was a good day.
