Saturday Sky, Now With Clouds

This is the view from my front door this afternoon, looking northeast. We actually had a few clouds, but no rain unfortunately. The clouds did cool it down a bit though.

Other than avoiding the hot weather, I've been knitting a baby hat for Jeanne's breast feeding event that the Yarn Harlot mentioned the other day (scroll down a bit). It's an eggplant hat based on a strawberry hat pattern found here.

I had a lighter weight yarn so I adapted the cast on, decreases, leaves and color for my yarn. Zoe spotted the hat and had other ideas for it.

"Hmm... it doesn't seem big enough to use as a ferret sleep sack. I wonder what it's for?"

A Purple Trip Through The Shoals

Instead of showing you progress on knitting that doesn't look much different from the last time, I thought I would take you on a brief purple tour of the Shoals for Project Spectrum. Before we start, though, thanks everyone for the nice words on the Jaywalkers! I really like how the yarn has that stripey effect.

The first stop is in the Florence historic district downtown. There are lot of nice old houses that have been restored. This one has been painted a nice, subdued shade of purple.

The next stop is the Children's Museum of the Shoals with its brightly colored building. It's a fun little museum with lots of hands on activities for the kids. It's also conveniently located next to Deibert Park, which has some great walking trails.

Children's Museum of the Shoals

I haven't seen it in a while but they used to have a brightly painted van outside with CMOS painted on the side in big letters. For the longest time I thought it was so cool that they named their van after a computer circuit. Then I realized it stood for Children's Museum Of the Shoals. Duh! Did I mention my geeky side?

Traveling on to the office, we have two huge crape myrtles that always have lots of purple blooms. The birds love to hang out here.

Back at home, Zoe is inspecting the office equipment.

"Purple smurple. I'm just trying to figure out how this fax machine works."

Jaywalking Along

I haven't just been knitting baby bibs lately. I'm still knitting on my Jaywalker socks too. I'm almost down to the heel on the first sock. The Jaywalkers knit surprisingly fast. There's just enough variety to keep you interested without needing a lot of concentration for the pattern.

The yarn looks a little brighter in this picture than in real life, or maybe I just haven't taken the socks out enough. I like the yarn and the pattern. I just may make another pair of these in the future.

All weekend Katie was tearing through the house, watching birds out the window, and waking us up in the middle of the night to let us know how much she loved us. Her favorite bird watching spot is on the table where Rick is restoring an old radio. Finally yesterday afternoon, during an intense bird watching session, she couldn't stay awake any longer. We found her sound asleep on a package of test tubes.* That's how I feel right now after her keeping me up all weekend.

* Geek alert! If you are wondering how you use test tubes to restore a radio, think about how upside down test tubes resemble old vacuum tubes. You can replace old vacuum tubes with more modern components. Place a shortened, mirrored test tube over the top of it, and it looks like an old style component.
