Just A Knitting Machine

Rick and I like to go the dollar stores like Dollar Tree, discount stores like Big Lots, and the various thrift stores. You never know what you might find there. Sometimes we end up just getting a few necessities. It great for getting lingerie bags to wash fleece, laundry bags for carrying miscellaneous magic stuff, and scissors. Scissors disappear at our house. I think they travel in time and space with the cat, but that's another story. Then occasionally you find that special little item you just have to get. This time it was a Bond Fashion Knitter knitting machine and it was cheap. I think that model has been discontinued. I have wanted to try a knitting machine but I didn't really want to spend a lot of money on one. This one is small and basic but it is enough to give me a feel for it. It is probably half the size of the sweater size models and it works best at plain old stockinette stitch.

Here is a picture of my sample in all of its curling glory. They include a skein of acrylic yarn.

It goes fast with plain old stockinette stitch once you get the hang of it. Anything else takes a bit of manipulation. I'm sure the bigger, fancier, more expensive models probably handle this better. I have no idea what I'm going to do with it. Afghans and cat beds were the first thing that came to mind. It's been fun to play with and I'm sure I'll use it for something but I'm not likely to give up my hand knitting. Phoebe, on the other hand, thinks it is much more fun to try and get into my knitting bag.

Jays Still Walking

Maybe I should say they are lumbering along. They aren't going very quickly but I am making progress. I had every intention of posting to the blog yesterday but the day ran amok. I guess I should expect that on a Monday. At the end of the day, I had the choice of posting to the blog or knitting. I chose knitting, otherwise this could end up being a pretty dull blog. The Jaywalker sock is down to the heels, so I'm feeling much better about them now. The second half of the sock always seems to go much faster.

The yarn is a little more purple and darker than in the picture. I'm starting to like the way the yarn stripes at the same time it swirls in the background.

Otherwise, I'm still tired so I think I'll go have a relaxing evening and get in some more knitting.
