Well It's a Start

Ack! I just realized that tomorrow is September. Who stole the rest of August? Today was a bit calmer but I still feel like I lost part of the month somewhere. I finally got around to ripping out my Jaywalker sock. After looking over a bunch of sock patterns, I decided to just make my standard stockinette stitch sock. It's easy and mindless. It should show off the colors. Mostly, though, it should satisfy my need for a quick sock fix. I can do something fancier for my next sock. So far I'm only a few rows past the picot edge.

I'm also still trying to get a pair of mittens done for the Bitchin' Mittens. I don't have that much more to do. I just need to actually sit down and do it.

For the spinners out there, Theresa at A Keyboard Biologist Knits has a clever idea for a tensioned Lazy Kate using a cardboard box, some extra cardboard, knitting needles, and some string or yarn. I might have to try it out one of these days. Speaking of spinning, today some of the girls on the street came over for their usual dose of magic. One of them spotted the spinning wheel and wanted to spin. The wheel is empty right now so I pulled out some fiber and let each of them have a try at spinning and gave them the yarn they spun. It was a little chaotic but fun. I might have to try that again sometime.

I'll leave you with a picture of a tortoise we spotted in the driveway this morning. I checked on her a few minutes later and she was crossing the street, so I moved her to the other side. I checked again a few minutes later and she was in the street again headed back towards our house. So I ended up moving her to some bushes in our backyard. Hopefully she'll find it more entertaining than the street.

If it's Tuesday, then I must be at...

It's been hectic here and it's only Tuesday. Work has been busy. We've been mostly working on site this week, which means all of the normal stuff at the office has been backing up. Don't get me wrong, busy weeks are good. It just throws us off of our usual schedule for a while. At least we haven't forgotten anything important yet. At least I hope we haven't.

You might remember when I mentioned seeing our friends Ross and Dawn when we went to Atlanta about a month ago. Well Sunday night we found out that their house caught on fire over the weekend. It turns out an arsonist set fire to a house under construction next door. That caused their house to catch on fire. They barely got out of the house. I don't think I'll ever understand arsonists. They had just moved into the house when we saw them and now it's just a shell. The good news, though, is that they all got out. They have insurance and a temporary place to live. Their dog miraculously survived. It could have been much worse.

There has been a little knitting here though.

Knit Flower

I've been playing with knit flowers. This is one of the flowers up close and personal in some of my hand-dyed hand-spun yarn. They are much easier than I thought they would be. I have no idea what I'm going to do with them. Mostly I just wanted to try it, a little something to brighten up the week.

Saturday Sky for 26 August

Our Saturdays have been monotonous - sunny and hot. At least this Saturday we had more clouds and even a bit cooler. I think we have finally broken away from the really hot weather. I took this picture sometime around mid-afternoon, I think. One of these days I'll actually manage to post the Saturday Sky on Saturday.

Saturday Sky for August 26

Yesterday was the last day for our local yarn shop. During August it has only been open on Saturdays. My Saturdays have been full this month. We've either been out of town or had something going on. I had actually thought they were already closed until I got an email about the final day last week. So I grabbed a few more bits and pieces of yarn to save the owner from having to pack it up and take it home.

Yarn Purchases

Going clockwise from the top left corner is some Steinbach Strapaz sock yarn, Rowan Wool Cotton, some mohair lace weight yarn, Debbie Bliss Cotton Angora, Cashsoft Aran, and still more Shaeffer Anne sock yarn. I think I bought almost all they had. Can you tell I've got hats, socks, and shawls on my mind? They actually still had a few bags of yarn left. It was nice stuff too, just nothing that interested me right now. I know I shouldn't let that stop me but I'm a project oriented shopper. Besides, I don't think my stash cupboard is going to go bare anytime soon.

So since I have the rest of a quiet weekend ahead of me, I'm off to knit.
