Felting Ferrets and a Shoals Tour

A while back I bought a felting kit off of eBay with an assortment of fiber, a little book, some felting needles and a piece of foam to felt on. I've been playing around with it making some little things. So I decided to make a ferret.

Felted Ferret

The object in front is a quarter for size. I know it's small. I had this fear that I would just waste a lot of fiber if I made a bigger one and then I would have to get more. Forgetting, of course, that I've got large bags of fiber laying around. The colors aren't that great but it's what I had. I should have taken progress pictures but it's easy to do. I made a stick figure with pipe cleaners and wound and felted some white fiber around until I had the general shape. Then I added color. With the inner wire stick figure you can change the position too. It was a fun experiment.

Moving on to some Shoals sightseeing... When I first came here, several people mentioned a section of town called the Village. It's a collection of houses and a school built during World War I for people working in the Nitrate Plant at the Tennessee Valley Authority. Every time I would ask where they are, the response would be "We just came up on them. I don't remember how to get back." So the other day Rick and I were going to install a network in a home. It was hard to find so Rick was driving and I was navigating. We were about halfway to the house when I spotted the houses. They are cute little stucco houses. Most of them are very small. They've all been restored to the point where they are downright cute. The school isn't being used but they plan to restore it. And no I don't remember how to get back there without the map.

Knitting and Frogging Along

If frogging can wear a yarn out, then surely I must be close by now. Oh, I'm still knitting on my Schaeffer Anne socks. It's just that I did a stupid thing. As I was knitting the leg, I thought I would put some decreases in for a little shaping. Now that would probably be okay if I were knitting a solid yarn, but I'm not. Changing the number of stitches does crazy things with hand painted yarn, and they didn't disappoint this time either. So I frogged back past the decreases and continued on again.

If I hadn't taken that little detour, I would be working on the heels now. I've been playing with some needle felting too but I'm not quite ready to show that yet. I'm still not sure if it's going to look like anything.

I completely missed the Saturday Sky. By the time I remembered the weather had turned drippy. Maybe I'll remember to take a picture before Saturday rolls around again. In the meantime, here's Balt checking the mail.
