The Nina, The Pinta, and...
Okay, maybe it was
just the Nina. More on that later. First thanks everyone for the nice Birthday wishes.
It was a busy and hectic day but a good one. Rick and I went to lunch at one of
our friends' restaurant where I got a huge piece of birthday coconut pie with a
candle on top. The candle caused a commotion though because it's a non-smoking restaurant
and no one had any matches. Then Rick and I went out to eat at another local restaurant
for dinner where we had good food, good wine, and I had a piece of cheesecake. I
don't often eat desserts so I think I'm still on a sugar high. Rick got me flowers
and some earrings. Overall, a good birthday, just not a very relaxing birthday.
On to the knitting
stuff. This should be quick. I have been knitting. I just haven't had time to do
much knitting this week. The Schaeffer Anne sock is coming along. I'm past the heel
so I feel like I'm almost done. The colors in this picture are closer to reality.
A while back I mentioned
the knit-dye-rip-reknit technique I had read about that uses knitting machines
for the first knit piece. When I looked through my new Spin-Off magazine, I found
out Nancy Roberts has an article in there on the technique. So if you're interested
in the technique, you might want to check out the Fall
issue of Spin-Off .
Now back to the Nina.
This week there is a replica of the Nina, Christopher Columbus's ship, in the Florence
harbor. Things finally calmed down a bit at the office this afternoon, so we had
a chance to go down and see it after work.
It is hard to imagine
27 people and their supplies on a ship that small going across the ocean. It's small
when you consider the number of people that would be sailing on it. It looks like
the replica has a crew of just a few people.
One of the notebooks
on board said the current crew has modern amenities like ice and hot plates and
probably some other things. I did see a note on board where they are looking for
their next crew, if you're interested.

Back in the Internet Saddle
I am way behind on
anything blog related. Our internet service has been flaky lately. We checked stuff.
Our ISP checked stuff. We finally decided it was the router and order a new one.
Well as soon as we made that decision, our router got a little worse every day.
I was not happy. So I haven't been spending much time online the past few days.
We were hoping the new router would arrive over the weekend. It didn't arrive until
today. We plug it in, nothing. It had been misconfigured it. A few hours and several
phone calls later, we finally got it straightened out. So I back up to speed now
but I am WAY behind on reading blogs.
In the meantime we've
had beautiful weather and even some much needed rain.
This past weekend
the Trail of Tears
Motorcycle Ride came through town, which means we have an additional 45,000
motorcycles in town for the weekend. I didn't participate this year but it is interesting
see that many motorcycles jammed into our town.
The good news, though,
is that tomorrow is my birthday. I don't have anything major planned because we've
been too busy to do much planning. We will be going out to eat at least. The ferrets
have already started preparations.
"Hey dudes,
Mom's birthday is tomorrow... Let's Party!"
