10 Knitterly Things You Didn't Know About Me
I thought I would
try Grumperina's
meme . I'm not sure I can come up with 10 things you don't already know, but
I'm going to give it a shot.
I use both Continental
and English methods of knitting, depending on what I'm knitting or what kind of
mood I'm in. Sometimes I even use both methods in the same garment. When I knit
Continental, I have my own quirky style of purling.
I've never knit
socks on circulars and I've never really wanted to knit socks on circulars. There's
always a chance I could change my mind though.
I've never knit
socks toe up but I'm going to try it one of these days.
No matter how bad
my hand spun yarn looks, it's always exciting to actually knit with it. That's
partly because I made it and partly because I like the way hand spun yarn feels
when I knit with it.
I cannot knit lace
after drinking a glass of wine or two. I have to rip back my knitting almost every
time.
I knit mostly for
myself. Occasionally I will knit for others but often I find the items don't get
used. Nothing would please me more than to find out someone wore out something
I knitted for them. I think I feel that way because my Mom was always saving her
gifts for that elusive "special occasion". I like knitting socks for
Rick because he wears them a lot.
Most of the time
I still knit flat items on straight needles. I seem to get wound up in the circulars
when I knit flat with circular needles.
I love to knit
lace. It fascinates me to see the patterns evolve.
I learned to knit
when I was about 11 while we were on vacation. The first thing I made was a pair
of slippers. That's also where I learned to prefer knitting with wool.
I often wind my
yarn into balls by hand. I learned to wind yarn into balls when I learned to knit.
I've done it that way for so long, it seems like second nature. I also like to
rewind yarn into balls even when it's already in a ball, although I don't always
rewind. I like to know in advance if there are any surprises, like knots.
The good news is
that I've finally caught up on my Bloglines. Hey if things keep going this way,
I may even end up posting my next Saturday Sky on a Saturday.

Just Another Manic Monday
Okay it wasn't a
seriously manic Monday but it wasn't exactly calm either. I'm still way behind on
reading blogs but I am making progress on catching up. October is going to be very
busy though. We have several magic shows lined up for the month in. I'm afraid that
I'll catch up only to fall behind again. Hopefully not. I also haven't been very
good at posting my Saturday Sky. So here's Saturday's sky from early afternoon,
before the storms started rolling in.
In spite of the rain,
or maybe because of the rain, it was a calm and quiet weekend. A perfect weekend
for knitting and spinning. I finished my first Schaeffer Anne sock. I thought I
would never get there.
That's definitely
not the most flattering picture of my leg. I swear my leg is not as fat as it looks
in this picture.
Thanks again for
the birthday wishes. The birthday celebrations continued on through the weekend.
A friend treated me to lunch and wine on Friday. Then another friend treated me
to dinner on Saturday. It's been a good birthday with good food and plenty of knitting
and spinning time.
Also speaking of
knitting socks, Socktoberfest
will be starting in October. This is one of my favorite knit-alongs. All you have
to do is knit socks and I'm usually knitting socks anyway. You don't even have to
finish them. It's just a fun way to celebrate handknit socks.
The ferrets have
been getting ready for winter - eating a lot, sleeping a lot, putting on weight,
and starting to get their winter coats. Maybe I can convince them to have their
picture taken next time.
