Saturday Sky and Socks
Yes, you're at the
right blog. I actually have a Saturday
Sky on Saturday. We've had beautiful weather this weekend with clear skies,
highs in the low 70s, and a nice breeze. Here's a picture sometime today around
noon or early afternoon.
Since it's Socktoberfest ,
I thought I would show my very first socks. Years ago I was going to knit myself
some socks but never got around to it. I still have the yarn somewhere. Then maybe
three years ago I decided again to knit myself some socks. This time I chose some
bulky Lion Wool-ease using the pattern on the label. I think they were called Cottage
Socks or Dorm Socks or something like that.
The nice thing about
using bulky yarn is that you can knit them up in no time. The hardest part was finding
double point needles that were large enough. I actually wear them around the house
on very cold nights. They tend to stretch out and there are some gaps here and there
where I picked up stitches around the heel. It was a good project for a first sock
though. I still make my socks with the same basic technique - double-point needles,
top down, heel flap.
Quiddity
is having the Second
Annual Show Me Your Socks Contest . I certainly don't have the largest collection
of socks around but at least it keeps getting bigger. Here's my collection perched
on my vase of knitting needles. Well I put up one of each pair since it was getting
crowded, but there is a mate for each of these socks.
That's Katie checking
out the sock display. Including my first sock, that's 14 socks in all. I've knit
three socks for Rick. Those are the ones starting clockwise from the center back
- grey and black socks, grey socks, and blue socks. The rest are mine. The blue
socks that I knit for Rick were the second pair of socks I knit. Of the three pair
I've knit for him, those are still his favorite pair. Right now I'm knitting up
the second Schaeffer Anne sock for me (pair number 12 for me). Speaking of which,
I think I'll go knit.

WTF Wednesday - a FO, Stephen Colbert, and a Shoe
Yes, I have an actual
FO to report. I'll wait here while you collect yourselves and ponder this event.
Remember way back when I was knitting the cashmere scarf? Well I finally finished
it. Granted, I still need to wash and block it and trim the ends, but it is finished.
I even have a bit
of yarn left over, which is disappointing. I could have made it wider. I'm sure
I'll find something to do with the rest though.
In other news, the
staff of the Stephen Colbert's The
Colbert Report is in town this week for the grand opening of the Stephen Colbert
Museum and Gift Shop. Before any of you make plans to rush down here, it's a bit
for the show and the museum comes down tomorrow. The town of Tuscumbia is in Colbert
County (they do pronounce the "t" on the end). You can probably see where
this is going. Stephen Colbert assumes the county is named after him. I wanted to
go and see the activities but that work stuff got in the way. Oh, here's a small
geography lesson. The Shoals consist of four towns crammed together as one big area,
and some other smaller towns outside the main area. Florence is on one side of the
river. It's easy to find. Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia are on the other
side of the river. It's hard to tell when you leave one town and enter the other.
So anything in any of those four towns is considered "in town".
Otherwise, it's been
a shoe hunting week. Our ferrets like to steal certain shoes. If you leave them
out and you're lucky, you will find your shoe here, in the hall.
Some of the shoes
are a little heavy to move, so they have to do it in stages. If you're not lucky,
you will have to check all of their special hiding places. I'm convinced that those
single shoes you see by the side of the road are left there by ferrets. I'm off
to do a shoe count.

Just Another Random Monday
I'm not sure what
I did this weekend, but I wasn't posting to blog or even reading blogs. I behind
on both again. Now if everyone could just stop posting for a few days...
First up is my Saturday
Sky, late again. I had to give insulin shots to a friend's cat this weekend while
she was away. This was taken around 6:30 or 7 pm from my friend's house. We've had
some beautiful sunsets lately.
I actually did some
knitting this weekend. I'm still trying to finish off some old projects though,
so I'll hold off on showing still another picture of the same old stuff. I've been
trying to finish off the lace scarf and it's reminding me why I don't often knit
scarves. They're long and it seem like you have to knit on them forever. This one
is actually close to being finished if I can just make myself knit it.
I also made a visit
to the library bookstore where I found this book.
The
Great T-Shirt Book: Make Your Own Spectacular, One-Of-A-Kind Designs ;
really is a great little book. The first part of the book cover techniques for decorating
t-shirts - printing, tie-dyeing, batiking, marbled. The last part of the book shows
various t-shirts created using these techniques. There are some nice t-shirts in
there.
Finally we also did
quite a bit of ferret chasing this weekend. Well mostly we chased Phoebe Ferret
who is always getting into trouble. Here Phoebe has discovered the bucket where
I keep the fish tank supplies.

looking for me?"
