A Night on the Town and a Sock

Last night Rick and I went out to see our friend Molli paint and listen to a band called BoomBox. It's been a really long time since we've done something like that. We go out and listen to jazz during Handy Festival week but most of the events we go to are in restaurants rather than nightclubs. It was fun though. The band was different from what we normally listen to, but it I liked it. Molli paints while the band plays. It's worked out well for her. She's generating quite a bit of interest in her paintings.

I've been doing at least a little bit of knitting. I started the Fluted Banister Socks. It's an easy pattern so it's been going rather quickly.

It's been good to have the bright colors during the rainy days we've had lately. So I'm off to do a bit more knitting. Katie and the ferrets seem to be sleeping until the sun comes back out. I'll try to have more pictures of them next time.

New Sock Project and Pod People

Well I guess I should say I'm ready to start a new sock project. I just haven't actually started it yet. I did knit this weekend, just not that much. But first, the pod people.

Rick and I were out running errands over the weekend and we decided to eat at Applebee's. It wasn't busy but there is a short wait for a table. I'm usually the one who answers the hostess questions (how many in your party and smoking or non-). The hostess asks us if we want smoking or non. I say non. Then she immediately turns around to Rick and asks him if we want smoking or non. When things like this happen, my brain starts whirling. Is there a separate section for mixed couples (smoker and nonsmoker)? If he says smoking, will they seat us at separate tables. Luckily Rick comes to his senses first and tells the hostess that it's okay for me to tell her what we want. So we get a table and I order a salad with chicken and fruit and stuff on it. The waitress asks me if I want a half size or a full size. I ask how big the full size is. She says it's twice the size of the half size. True, but not very helpful. We ask her if she can give us a general idea of the size or how big the dish is. Nope. She has no clue. I'm convinced their staff had been taken over by pod people. Oh, and I ended up just taking a chance and get the half-size.

On to the socks though. I decided that I needed something brighter for my next pair of socks, so chose some yarn in my stash from a contest at Stumbling over Chaos. I think it was from Lotus Blossom on eBay. The first task was getting the skein in a center pull ball.

Winding sock yarn from the swift

That went well until Katie realized what I was doing. She just can't resist helping when I'm winding yarn.

I did finally get it wound into a ball. I'll probably use the Fluted Banister Socks pattern, except on double-points and lighter weight yarn. Now I just need to get around to knitting them.
