Random Thursday
The random gift issue,
because I really don't have much of anything else. The universe is making up for
those two crisis-free weeks we had over the holidays. Yesterday started out with
Internet service being down for two hours in our area code. That's not a good start
for the day when your business is software and networking. Everything we did seemed
to require a struggle and we had a lot of catching up to do. Today is a little better.
Maybe by Friday things will be back to normal.
First though, I actually
won Kat's
Christmas
decoration contest with my pictures of our
neighborhood Christmas decorations . Who would have thought? Thanks, Kat! If
you haven't seen the pictures, scroll back through the entries on Kat's blog.
We don't do a lot
of gift giving. Of course, I got the very big gift of a spinning wheel this year,
and then just a few other things. One of them was a much welcomed gift certificate
to Linens N Things
that I used to buy some new sheets. My gift from me to me was the book Fishermen's
Sweaters: Twenty Exclusive Knitwear Designs for All Ge nerations
by Alice Starmore. The book has a nice variety of patterns, including some children's
sweaters and a few with colorwork. There are a lot of nice sweaters in the book
and several that I wouldn't mind making.
The ferrets got a
special Christmas present, an automatic pet water fountain.
See it all started
with me letting Balt on the bathroom counter so he could drink out of the faucet.
Then Zoe found out and then Phoebe found out. Pretty soon all of the ferrets were
tapping my ankles and wanting to drink out of the faucet. So I thought a water fountain
would be a good idea. It was. They love it. I set it up initially with a low flow.
Well there's a valve under water to adjust the flow rate. The first thing Phoebe
did was to stick her head under water and remove the valve so it flowed at top speed.
I put the valve back and turned the flow up. Now everyone's happy and nobody bothers
the valve. Sometimes these ferrets are just too darned intelligent. Katie doesn't
seem real interested in it but then she prefer to eat and drink with her paws. (shrug)
Katie's Christmas present was a new cardboard scratching thing. That's Katie checking
it out.
I've had more success
with these than the various rope-wound scratching things that I've ended up giving
away.
So that's it for
me tonight.

Slugs
Yes, we've been slugs
for the past few days. At first we were going to go out and eat on New Year's Eve.
The conversation went something like this:
Rick : Where
do you want to go eat?
Me : I don't
know. Where do you want to go?
Rick : I don't
know. Where do you want to go?
Me : We could
stay in and I could make chili.
Rick : Okay.
So that's basically
what we did, stay home and have chili and champagne. A friend came over towards
midnight and we went outside to watch the neighborhood fireworks. Otherwise, it
was a nice, quiet evening.
Yesterday was another
lazy day. We had our traditional collard greens and blackeyed peas in the form of
Hopping John. I also did some more spinning and I started on the second Fluted Banister
sock.
Plans for 2007? I
don't have any yet. Right now I'm focused on finishing some of these things I've
started and spinning on my new wheel. I'm sure it will all come to together soon
though.
