Flowers, Feet, and Ferrets

I looked outside yesterday afternoon and we actually have daffodils coming up in the yard.

Daffodils in the yard

Now it hasn't been as cold here as some parts of the US but I didn't think it was warm enough for daffodils either. It's still well below freezing at night and it seems like we get a teeny tiny bit of snow about every other night. Usually we don't see them for another month. It'll be interesting to see how much they bloom in the spring.

I've started on the Mountain Colors Bearfoot (Huckleberry colorway) socks. I really like the colors in this yarn.

The red actually stands out more in real life than in this picture.

In the continuing sage of Zoe and the stuffed bear, this picture should give you an idea of outcome. You can see the bear slumped over on the far left.

"Okay, maybe the bear is a little too big for me afterall. I think I will give up for today and look for something smaller to steal."

Bears, Books, and Caps

I've finished two chemo caps for the drive at Minestrone Soup. This second one is a little bigger than the last one. That will probably be all I make. I still have a little fun fur type yarn left, but I'm afraid it won't be enough for another hat. It's good to mark something off of my to do list.

We don't go all out for Valentine's Day but even so my day got off to a bad start. I woke up in the middle of the night with that queasy, "if I don't move, I might be okay" feeling. Well I wasn't okay, but luckily it only lasted a half day. I've been wanting to stay home in the middle of the week, but I would rather do it when I'm healthy. At least it I was feeling better by the afternoon. The good news is that I bought myself a present for Valentine's Day. Well actually it just sort of worked out that way. I've been wanting to get Unexpected Knitting b by Debbie New for a while now. I used some accumulated gift certificates I had, and it came in time for Valentine's. It's a great book. There are some patterns in it but it's more of an inspiration book. It's got clothes, a knitted portrait of her grandmother, and a lace boat that floats.

As for the continuing saga of Zoe and the giant bear, it's not going too well.

"Maybe I just need to approach the bear from a different angle."

Bear Socks and Attempted Bear Theft

We were at the book store this weekend and I noticed that the current issue (January / February) of Piecework magazine is a knitting special issue. I'm probably the last person to know this, but I'm mentioning anyway just in case I'm not. Nancy Bush has articles on two-ended knitting and Estonian mittens. There are also articles on knitted purses, samplers, coverlets and projects for purses, a baby sweater and bonnet, and mittens. It's an interesting issue.

I had forgotten all about Project Spectrum until Chris mentioned it on her blog. February and March cover the colors blue, gray, and white. I have several balls of either blue, gray, and white sock yarn or blue and gray sock yarn, but I needed something a little more colorful. So my next socks will be some Mountain Colors Bearfoot yarn in the Huckleberry colorway.

Besides, I love Bearfoot yarn. It's so incredibly soft and warm. These will also be plain stockinette socks because I need something that is a little mindless. I'm already looking forward to having them on my feet.

Keeping with the bear theme, I have this very large bear that sits on the couch in my office. This morning Zoe decided she needed to steal it. See Zoe feels all stuffed animals belong to her. She has a little size problem trying to steal this one. I don't know if you can tell from the picture, but she's trying to drag the bear by it's eye.

"There's got to be a way to drag this bear under the bed."
