A Couple of Additions

There's no knitting pictures today. I did a little lace knitting and a little sock knitting. There's not enough progress to bore you with pictures. Mostly because of chasing down thieving ferrets. That's Zoe napping on my fish pillow.

Zoe with the fish pillow

Just so you know, it shouldn't be sticking out from under the bed. It should be on my couch. It was a losing battle trying to keep it on the couch this weekend though. I think I'm going to have to concede this battle.

The stars of the weekend were our doves, Sophie and Elvis. Now Sophie and Elvis have been laying eggs for a while now. At first we took them away because we didn't want to be overrun with doves. Then a few months ago a couple of people said they would like to have a dove. So we let Sophie and Elvis go ahead an incubate the eggs. Unfortunately the first few batches weren't fertile. In fact, we were starting to think that was always going to be the case. So Sunday morning, I get up and see Sophie proudly holding up half of an egg shell. We hadn't even looked at the eggs much this time since we've been preoccupied with Rick's back problems. We have two brand new baby birds. Right now they look like two miniature, slightly floppy, plucked chickens. The picture was blurry since we didn't really have a chance to get the camera focused while we checked on the babies.

Baby doves on their first day

Normally mom and dad share the duties of incubation and baby tending, with one parent taking the day shift and the other taking the night shift. Sophie and Elvis don't want to leave the nest other than a short break. They've spent most of the time together on the nest admiring their work. Assuming all goes well with the baby birds, I'll try to take more pictures as they progress.
