Guineas and Goats and Horses, Oh My!

We're back from a weekend of fun at our friend's ranch in south Alabama. Since they were having an arts festival at the ranch, it was a good excuse to go down and visit them. It was a gorgeous weekend. I spent a lot to time playing with their horses, goats, chickens, geese, and guineas.

Petting the horses

That's me petting a couple of their horses. Our friends tried to send us home with a billy goat that is a little too much of a lady's man and a little rooster that wants to conquer the world. Lucky for us, we live in the city. Rick was fascinated with the chickens. Every time I turned around, he was following the chickens and talking to them and telling them jokes.

These guys kept cracking me up.

Guineas with a rooster

This flock of guineas seem to think this black rooster is their mom or at least their leader. Everywhere the rooster would go, he would have these guineas following him. Apparently the rooster wasn't too pleased when they first started following him. Then one day a dog got a hold of the rooster and he almost died. The guineas stayed with him until he recovered and now the rooster accepts them. They even follow him into the chicken coop at night.

The next day was the art festival with entertainment, demonstrations, and people showing their art. Turnout was light but it was still a lot of fun. Here's our friend Lucy showing off her "unicorn".

Lucy and her unicorn

Later Rick and our friend Bob decided to do a little magic show. We had brought the ferrets with us since they travel well. They decided that Zoe would be perfect for a trick where they turn a dove into a ferret. The trick is done on a little stand and went well, except Zoe decided to jump off. She was fine. The rest of us panicked for a couple of minutes.

Then just as the events were winding down, an older woman that I had talked to earlier wanted to know if I could finish knitting a sweater that a friend had started. It's a mohair cardigan that's almost finished. I had a hard time getting any details in the photo.

Unfinished sweater

It just needs to be finished around the neck and seamed. There's no pattern with it but there are live stitches at the top of the bands on each side. Right now I think I'll just pick up stitches around the neck and make a plain neck. Luckily she's about my size so I can try it on as I go. Let me know if any of you have any other suggestions.
