Meet Dexter and a Thank You

So the other day I told Rick and my friend Michele about this big, sweet ferret whose family had given him up because of allergies. Well Michele had been trying to think of a Christmas gift for me and that was all she needed to know. When I got to the office yesterday, she handed the ferret to me. So we're back up to three ferrets again. Rick started calling him Dexter and the name stuck. His previous name was Rascal but he's not a Rascal at all. He's a big mellow boy, and I do mean big. He looks a lot like Clyde except bigger and a little darker.

Dexter

Dexter has some weight issues. Many ferrets will put on weight in the winter but he's a whopping 3.5 pounds, almost one pound heavier than Clyde. I think he must have turned to food in his depression. He'll get a lot more exercise at our house, so I'm hoping he trims up with exercise alone. (Don't we all?) Right now he kind of waddles around the house but he can move surprisingly fast.

Dexter is fitting in quickly. Yesterday Clyde gave him his initiation dragging around the house. Now they are good buddies. Zoe let him know he shouldn't mess with her stuff and he discovered that cats have sharp claws. He's taking it all in stride and seems pretty happy to be here.

I also received my ornament swap package from Cindy yesterday.

"Mmmm.... chocolate." - Clyde

Cindy sent a handmade ornament, some hot chocolate mix, chocolate candy, mints, and tea. The picture just doesn't do justice to the ornament. It is so pretty, even down to the little needles with the glass ends stuck in the ball of yarn. The hot chocolate is actually tiny chunks of chocolate that you melt in hot milk. Thanks Cindy!

Racing Towards Christmas

Life continues at its hectic pace. I'm not at all ready for Christmas, but I'm looking forward to it. If all goes well, we should have a relaxing time at home. I did get some knitting in this weekend, but nothing I can show. Once I get past this week, I'll feel like I can take time to breathe again.

It hasn't been all work. Last Thursday, we went to a party for the Huntsville magic club. It was one of those nights where we raced home to change clothes and then race off to the party. It ended up being a fun, relaxing evening. I'm convinced these guys made it extra fun for most of us.

Parrot and Cockatoos

Yes that's a real parrot perched on the fire screen on the far left too. That's only about half of their birds. Almost all of us were fascinated with the birds and the birds were loving the attention as well as the peanuts the kids were feeding them.

Back at the house over the weekend, Rick had bought a new radio. Well he was still playing with his radio when I went to bed and I wasn't there to remind him to move the box out of ferret reach. The next morning I get up and let the ferrets out. Pretty soon we hear scratching. Clyde is in the radio box. Now normally we don't leave any styrofoam out where the ferrets can get to it. This is why.

He was having a blast, and disappointed that we moved the box. Next time I'll tell you about a new addition to the family, when I've had a chance to actually take some pictures.
