Not the Best Start

Well it wasn't the best start to the new year. On New Year's Eve, Rick mentioned that he had that achy feeling like it was coming down with something. We didn't think that much more about it. By New Year's Day, he was running a fever and feeling pretty bad. At that point we still thought he was just getting a cold. By the next day, though, he had a really high fever and nausea. So off we go to the doctor, expecting to get a prescription or two and sent home. Instead he gets sent straight to the hospital. It turns out that he has pneumonia. He's home now and doing much better, but it wasn't the way either one of us wanted to start the year. I did get a little bit of knitting done on my Ripples Sockamania sock from November, shown here on the hospital heater. I've been incredibly slow with this sock.

I'll get back to my regularly irregular blog posting and reading as soon as I regroup a bit.

Happy New Year!

It's the last post for the year. For a while, I thought it was going to be a race to the new year. Things stayed hectic until a few days ago. We ended up having to work a couple of partial days, but nothing too strenuous. The last few days have been relaxing, and I needed it. Unfortunately, not much knitting has been done. Maybe next year will be better.

The Katie and the ferrets got a new fishing pole, which was a big hit with all, and a number of balls and stuffed toys, most of which were stolen by Zoe. The gift bags and tissue paper...

"This bag and tissue paper is all mine!" - Katie

and boxes were the biggest hits.

Clyde and Dexter in a box

"Hey they gave us a box for Christmas!" - Clyde and Dexter

Dexter really is getting more fit, in spite of the way it looks in this picture. I got a new super duper camera, a Canon Rebel XTi. I'm still getting used to it but it still manages to take good pictures in spite of my inexperience. We have had a stream of sweets and visitors. I feel sure I ate my weight in pound cake. Here's one visitor, our friend Michael. He was in a bad motorcycle accident before Christmas but only broke his leg. (It could have been much worse.)

We've also been trying to do a little bit of reorganization and catching up. Overall it's been a good holiday, even though it's been a bit hectic.

I hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
