Approaching Normality

At least we're trying to get back to normal. Thanks for the good wishes for Rick. Although it will be a bit before he's back to 100 percent, he's is much better. He's even back at work today. So today will be a bit of a catch up post.

No New Year Resolutions here, but one of the things I decided to do this year is the ABC-Along.

ABC-Along

Even though I'm notoriously bad at "alongs", maybe this will be one I can keep up. Besides, it will be a way to get used to my new camera.

Part of the past few days have been spent sitting on the couch knitting with Katie sitting on my lap or on my legs.

Katie sleeping on my legs

"Hey, I'm trying to sleep here. Turn off the flashy thing."

This is a dangerous position when I'm knitting. If I'm not careful, she'll chew the yarn when I'm not looking. She's especially good at this. Before I know it, I'll come to a wet soggy yarn end where there shouldn't be an end. Now I have extra ends on the sock I'm knitting and I hate weaving in ends.

Our little company participated in the One Laptop Per Child program last year where we donated one XO laptop and received one XO laptop.

One local person commented to me that this was a silly idea because these people wouldn't have internet access. To me, it's not about internet access, it's about education and this is a very educational laptop.

It comes with software for writing, programming, drawing, making music, and more. There are USB ports and a camera. It's sturdy and definitely kid-sized. It comes with a wall plug but you can get solar and crank power generators for it. It took me a while to get it connected to our D-Link wireless router. This first generation doesn't include WPA. The next upgrade will include it. I had to manually add in a WPA script and then we had to upgrade our wireless router. We could only get it to work with WPA version 2. That's the only problem I've had with it. It's not very speedy and the interface is different, but I got used to it quickly. I've been quite impressed with it.
