A is for Autograph Book

I was starting to think that I was already stalled at the letter A in the ABC-Along. Then I remembered my grandmother's (on my mother's side) autograph book. My grandmother died long before I was born. The only picture I have of her is in a genealogy book. This old and well worn autograph book helps me to feel connected to her.

Most have a bit of poetry in lovely handwriting and almost all of them are signed with a date and place. Here's the text from this page.

"Miss Estella, I was born in sixty seven and when I die I hope in Heaven all my school mates to meet, and on the golden shore to greet. And now I wish to say let us for each other pray and try to meet our friends in Heaven. Your friend and school mate, R.J. Blalock. Spruce Pine, N.C., Feb. 28, 1891."

I also have to smile when I see this little book. My mom always regretted that she and her sister wrote a bunch of silly stuff on some of the pages. For me, that's part of its charm.

Half of a FO

Katie and the ferrets are breathing a sign of relief today. I missed National Dress Up Your Pet Day yesterday. Course they were partly responsible for my missing it due to messes made, food dishes getting turned over, and various other things that managed to take up my time. I'm convinced they planned it that way. That's okay. I'll get them another time. Also I meant to mention this earlier. K3tog is having their annual Preemie Hat Knitting Extravaganza this month. They're trying to reach a goal of 150 hats this year.

I did finish the first Ripples sock. (It's okay. Take your time to recover from finding out there is actual knitting content.) Katie says it makes a nice pillow.

I like the way it turned out. Now to finish the second sock.

I've also done a bit of spinning. I have a couple of small batches of silk fiber that I bought a while back but I've been putting it off for fear of messing it up. I took a little one ounce bag of fiber that I had and started on it. It's actually been easy to spin once I got past the first yard or two.

The fiber is pink and blue with a little bit of gold here and there. It's been so easy to spin, I'm kind of sorry I put it off for so long.

I'll leave you with Zoe waiting for her turn in the older, well-used ferret tube.
