A Bloggers (Silent) Poetry Reading to Celebrate the Feast of Brigid
Today is the third
annual Bloggers
(Silent) Poetry Reading to celebrate the Feast of Brigid or Groundhog Day. I
owe my love of poetry and horror movies and science fiction to my Aunt Alma. When
I would go visit her in the summer, we would read and write poetry and tell stories.
We spent evenings looking at the stars or watching horror and science fiction shows
on TV. She was very protective of her own poetry, destroying most of it before she
died. She always wanted one of her poems published though. I still have her old
well-worn copy of "Huntsman, What Quarry? " by Edna St. Vincent
Millay with many notes and poems written in the margins. She would have enjoyed
this day. This one is marked as the "masterpiece of this volume".

No further from me
than my hand Is China that I loved so well; Love does not help to understand The
logic of the bursting shell. Perfect in dream above me yet Shines the
white cone of Fuji-San; I wake in fear, and weep and sweat . . . Weep
for Yoshida, for Japan. Logic alone, all love laid by, Must calm this
crazed and plunging star: Sorrowful news for such as I, Who hoped--with
men just as they are, Sinful and loving--to secure A human peace that
might endure.

B is for Books
The ABC-Along
for B was was so easy, I almost felt guilty. If you know me at all, though, you
know I have a thing for books. I have books everywhere and Rick is just as bad.
I have books and magazines by the bed. (Click on the images for larger versions
on Flickr.)
There are cookbooks,
science books, knitting books, gardening books, art books, home repair books, and
foreign language books.
There are fiction
books, aquarium books, and atlases.
There are computer
books, programming books, investing books, more art books, health books, and pet
books.
That doesn't count
the small stacks of books in various baskets, on the coffee table, and books in
the hall waiting to be given away. It also doesn't count Rick's books. We would
have a lot more room, if it wasn't for our books, but it wouldn't be as fun. Our
weekend date usually consists of going out to eat and then going to the bookstore.
We don't always buy something at the bookstore, but it just doesn't seem right unless
we make a visit.
Before I go, there
are a couple of "events" coming up this weekend. I noticed on Not
Plain Jane that Saturday is Bloggers' (Silent) Poetry Reading. I had other things
going on last year but I plan to participate this year. Then Sunday is Super
International Pajama Day so don't forget to stay home in your pajamas. I'm not
sure if it's different from most Sundays around here so I'm ready!
