Turkeys and the Yarn Harlot

We had a fantastic day yesterday. We decided to drive up the Natchez Trace Parkway to Nashville. It was cloudy most of the drive up there, but it was warm and apparently the rain was in front of us. Everything is just starting to get green along the Trace and the Redbud trees were blooming everywhere. It was a gorgeous drive.

Click the picture for a bigger version. Unfortunately for Rick, I've been trying to get a good picture of a wild turkey along the Trace for years. It was unfortunate because there were a lot of turkeys out yesterday. So I would be driving along and stop suddenly every time I saw a turkey. Wild turkeys are deceptive though. You think they aren't paying any attention but by the time you stop the car and grab your camera, they've wandered into the trees. So I have a lot of pictures of trees with a turkey in there somewhere or pictures of turkey butts heading for the trees. This was the best one I took.

This is one of my favorite rest stops / picnic areas along the Trace, Jack's Branch. At least I think that's right. It's much more green in the summer.

In spite of my stopping every few minutes to try and photograph a turkey, we still made it to Nashville in plenty of time to have a nice meal and look around a bit before heading over to the bookstore to look around and get a seat. I met Sandra, who also made a bit of a drive to see Stephanie. We had a good-sized crowd, filling almost all of the chairs. The Borders folks made the whole thing a very pleasant experience. They brought all of us little cups of coffee and cake while we waited. It was a fun group of knitters too.

I'm in the front row there with the greenish-yellowish shirt. Rick ended up taking pictures for a lot of people since he was one of the few non-knitters in the bunch. Stephanie tried, unsuccessfully, to convince him to learn to knit. I laughed until I had tears streaming down my face. Rick enjoyed it too, even asked her a question. We had trouble getting non-blurry pictures for some reason, but this was the best one of me and Stephanie.

Stephanie gave us a lot of laughs and things to think about. Even Rick came away feeling happy and inspired. It was totally worth the drive up there.

A Wealth of Prizes

I don't enter many contests. Every now and then I'll enter few but then I'll get busy and won't enter them. But luck was on my side with the last batch of contests I entered. Knitnana had a contest a while back to decide on a closure for her Glady interchangeable needle holder. I was the winner of a gorgeous custom Glady with rainbow kitties on the outside.

When you open it up, the fabric is coordinating stripes with pockets for needles on one side and bigger pockets on the other side for the rest of the stuff. Thanks Knitnana!

I also won some wonderfully soft Saucy sock yarn by Numma Numma from Jane. I was the winner of the lovely Fresh Ginger colorway. The skein has a whopping 550 yards. Thanks Jane!

Otherwise, I've been really busy. Luckily things seem to have calmed down to a dull roar here this so I'm not feeling quite as frazzled. I even got in a bit of knitting time here and there. It's been so long since I've actually finished anything, I've almost forgotten what it's like. Tomorrow Rick and I are going to head up to Nashville to take a much needed day off to mess around town and then go see the Yarn Harlot. He's actually been reading Stephanie's blog the past few days, I guess to prepare himself. I think he's actually fascinated by her closet analogy when she was having internet problems.

I'll leave you with Clyde and Katie both trying to play with the fishing pole feathers.

"Hey Katie, when are you going to let me have a turn?" - Clyde

"You don't need a turn."- Katie
