Back From Dayton

I'm back from the Hamvention in Dayton, Ohio and almost rested up. I'm not sure which is more tiring, the drive up there and back or the actual convention. It was a good trip without any major catastrophes. We has pouring rain on the drive up there and while we were setting up the booth on Thursday. Traditionally it usually seems to rain during this convention, but once we got past Thursday we had beautiful weather all weekend. Our hotel had lots of lilac bushes that were in full bloom and smelled wonderful. In fact, there were lots of trees and bushes blooming there.

This particular convention is great for people watching. This year there were more people dressed up as characters. Here's one person dressed up as an astronaut.

I was fascinated by this particular tie. You can't tell from this photo but it's the US Constitution written out in license plates. Apparently it's from a piece of art at the Smithsonian museum.

A bunch of us also splurged one night and ate at Flemings. It's a fantastic restaurant. There are a number of them around the country but this was the first time I've eaten there. All of the food was fabulous and beautifully presented but every camera came out when they came out with this plate of onion rings.

We took the ferrets with us this time since we were staying at a hotel that allowed pets. Besides ferrets love new experiences. During the day while we were gone we would leave them in the cage. On the last day we made plans with the hotel to check out late so we could drop some people off at the airport without taking the ferrets with us. As we were leaving for the morning we told the housekeeping staff that we would be checking out late. They yelled out, "Oh you're the ferret people!". It turns out they had been sitting and watching the ferrets every day while we were gone. And here we were afraid the ferrets would be bored and lonely while we were gone during the day.

All of us, ferret and human, are glad to be back home. I got a little knitting done while I was gone but not nearly as much as I took with me. I'm ready to relax and knit.
