Pile of yarn and a spindle

As The Yarn Turns

The tales of how I squeeze knitting and spinning into an already full life

Travels, Real and Virtual

Just because I haven't been doing much knitting this summer, doesn't mean I've stopped buying yarn. When I was in Huntsville the other day, I stopped at Yarn Expressions and bought some Smooshy.

Smooshy sock yarn

I really like the colors in this yarn - red with with a hint of purple. I seem to be going into the a red phase. The last few yarns and spinning fibers I've bought were red or orange. I also spotted this knitted artistic piece in my Internet travels this weekend. The "yarn" is actually quilted strips.

One of the reasons I don't have any knitting or spinning to show is because I spent a lot of the weekend watching the new baby black-footed ferret on the Smithsonian National Zoo ferret cam. Check it out if you haven't seen it yet. Apparently if you were watching the cam at about 10:30 this past Friday morning, you could have seen the little guy being born. I didn't see it until later in the day. He's a very active little thing. That first day he kept crawling all over his/her mom as if to say "Wake up mom. It's a new day, a new world. Let's explore." She would wake up, grab him in her mouth, and curl up around him. Then in a minute or two the whole process would start again. Georgia is being a very patient mom. I've noticed today that he has settled down to more serious eating and growing.

Finally, Rick and I were out grocery shopping over the weekend and spotted this little car in the parking lot. It's not a very good picture since I was taking it at night without a tripod but I think you can get the idea.

Car with a raft and a boat on the roof

The car has a large blue raft on the roof of the car and a boat on top of that. The raft looked partially inflated, or as inflated as it could be with a boat on top. I was surprised that the roof was holding up and that they could see to drive to the store.
