Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone here in the US has a wonderful Thanksgiving. I thought about selling my can of pumpkin to the highest bidder but I love pumpkin pie too much, especially for breakfast. I'm looking forward to a fun, relaxing, and hopefully drama-free long weekend. In anticipation of turkey tomorrow, I had homemade egg rolls tonight. They're not as pretty as the restaurant kind but they're oh so good. Here's a few things to keep you busy over the long weekend if you get bored or tired of eating leftovers.

One of my favorite sites is Awkward Family Photos, especially over the holiday season when you are gathered with family and friends. It brings back memories of my own awkward family photos. You probably have had some too. I try to destroy, or at least hide, mine.

If things go wrong at Thanksgiving, you can always check out the FAIL Blog to feel better.

I always have trouble knitting set-in sleeves and getting them to fit right. Heck I have trouble with any sleeves. So if you're knitting a sweater over the holiday weekend, you might want to check the Set-in Sleeve Calculator.

Finally Amazon is offering 3 free MP3s (via Chris via Lifehacker). Links and details on the Lifehacker post.

Talk you next week.

Knit A Bit, Rip A Bit

So I was knitting along on the back of my jacket the other day, and I started thinking about how long it's taking. I hold it up to my underarms and realize that it already looks too long and I'm still not close to 60 cm yet. I read the instructions again. Oops, I was supposed to start the underarm decreases at 42 cm and I'm way past that point. Turns out I read the instructions wrong. After unraveling several inches, I'm working on the armholes now. If I ever finish the back, it will be a miracle.

Speaking of finishing stuff, I did finish reading a book though. This is the book Burnout: the mystery of Space Shuttle STS-281 by my friend Stephanie Osborn. It's really more mystery than science fiction, but there is some science fiction aspects to it as well as a touch of romance. It has some interesting twists and turns that makes it hard to put down. While the focus of the book is the space shuttle, there's actually a lot more to it. That was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed it and never got bored with it at all.

While we're on books, I might as well mention the new affiliate laws going into effect soon. Whenever I mention a book here, I almost always use my Amazon affiliate link. Mostly I do that because I like it when other people link to Amazon or another site so I can get more information about it. If you actually click on the link and buy something, I'll get a few cents. If those cents add up to enough money, they'll send me a check. That doesn't happen that often. But please, if you have a favorite local bookstore, buy it there. They have a hard enough time staying in business. I've never been given a book to review by an author or publisher, including this one. If I were given a book to review, that wouldn't guarantee a good review.

I put the ferrets in the cage at night to keep them from getting into trouble while I sleep and to keep them from hunting my toes while I sleep. Well the other morning, I was awake but hadn't got out of bed. I hear the pitter patter of tiny footsteps and here comes Dexter. I went to the cage and he had opened up the door. From then on, I make sure the door is secure. This morning I get up and went to let the ferrets out. Dexter peeks his head out from under the bed. Zoe and Clyde are asleep in the cage with the door shut. I guess I need to add teleporting to Dexter's superpowers.

Even though Zoe is smaller and much older than the boys, she can still be feisty.
